Hello everyone,

We are in our second week now of insulin injections and testing. The vet has increased Peter's dose to 2 units of ProZinc. Per her instructions, we are now testing twice a day just before feeding and dosing him. This evening however I got stuck at work late due to an emergency, and Peter absolutely would not cooperate with my husband's attempts to do the test. He fed him and dosed him at the normal interval, and then I was able to come do the test about 20 minutes later when I got home. The level came up at 331, the lowest we've seen yet. (I think the low-carb diet the last week has been steadily bringing things down, which is great). My question is how quickly the insulin dose takes effect, and so how far "off" is this reading likely to be?

Thanks!
Chelsea

We think a window of 30 minutes is the max before the food raises numbers, so your 20 minutes may be okay. If you are a little worried he was lower for the shot, get a +3 test to be sure he isn't dropping.

I am so glad you are testing regularly! Remember if you get a test 200 and below, wait 20 minutes without eating and retest, to be sure the number is rising and above 200.

Shame about the 490 this morning. Do you think you will be able to get some mid cycle tests in the next few days or weekend? Or a before bed?

Wendy
