Blood in urine - apparently not UTI?

Ugh, what's with kitties and holidays/weekends?

Tasha (16, stage 3 CKD) peed with a little blood in it last night. She just sometimes does this and it's a tiny bit but this was more than usual. This morning (from overnight), it was clear. She just peed again and it was quite bloody. I called the vet and they made us an appointment for tomorrow morning at 9:30 am but said (without knowing any of Tasha's history) that she'd probably bring her into the ER today.

She's had a UTI before, in which case, will 24 hours make a difference? Should I take her to the ER?

Also, could it be stress? We moved this past week, and the place is a disaster. For extra fun, this morning was her first dose of Lantus (switching from Prozinc). We wanted to wait a few more days but the Prozinc was just too low to even get a dose out of it anymore.

She acts fine otherwise. BG numbers have been low, if anything, and we've actually skipped a few doses of insulin because of it. In the process of updating her chart right now.

Thoughts? Take her in? Wait until morning?
 
Hmmm...if it was ME, I'd go to the ER. I hate that (since I know the cost sucks and we'd all prefer our usual vet), but I wouldn't want to wait that long. I'd rather have answers immediately and start treatment so she feels better depending on what it is. That's just my opinion, though. I don't know for sure if 24 hours would be okay to wait.
 
If your vets said it could wait, I would wait til Monday. May Patches has similar episodes of blood in urine. It seemed to be stress related and I just gave pain meds and subQ fluids with vet agreement, after a 3-4 trips to the vet for the same problem.
 
The lady that I spoke to the phone said she'd bring her in, but she also has no clue about Tasha's history, etc. She's just going by a script and her own feelings.

We're already monitoring her closely due to the switch in insulin today and the ER is open 24/7 so at this point, I'm leaning toward not going in unless something changes. She's completely chill right now.
 
Update: Long story, but due to her falling really low on the Lantus yesterday (our fault) plus the stress of the ER, we opted not to take her in until the appointment today.

The vet, though not her own, had clearly taken a few minutes to familiarize himself with her chart, and I felt really good about the treatment Tasha received. She was very relaxed (except for the yell I heard when they took the urine sample, but, c'mon, I'd yell too!) and I think it was the right decision.

The sample contained blood so he felt strongly enough to send us home with Clavamox and he'll contact me with the urinalysis results tomorrow. If further follow-up is needed, we'll be able to do that with our regular doctor.
 
Update: The vet called. There's blood in the urine, as well as glucose. But the white blood cell count doesn't indicate infection. Nothing really indicates infection. He says he'll update our regular vet tomorrow when she's in and to keep up with the Clavamox until it runs its course. If there's still blood, he recommends running another urinalysis or perhaps considering a kidney stone or something further.

I think I want to see what our regular vet has to say. This guy impressed me in that he had definitely looked over Tasha's chart (he knew she was diabetic, a little fiesty, had kidney issues, that we home test, etc), but he doesn't have the same grasp on her history as the regular vet. We'll see what she says and go from there. In the meantime, maybe there's glucose in the urine, but her BG tests are low low low. Does that make sense? I know she was stressed when she was in the office, but she tested 188 2 hrs before the appt, 193 when we got home from it. Should she be dumping glucose in the urine?

Any other thoughts?
 
The renal threshold is somewhere between 16o and 240 or so. there is no one value.
Could stress be causing the blood? It happened with my Patches.
 
Stress can definitely cause bladder inflammation which can then cause bleeding.

Great initial response to the Lantus, I see! :)

Larry - I thought the threshold was much higher than that so that makes more sense.

Stress could totally be causing the bleeding. I know I'm stressed out of my mind right now. No doubt she's having a moment. My poor girl. I'm trying to settle things as quickly as possible. :(

And yes, Mogs, she seems to be loving her Lantus, though it's got me completely confused about what to do with her dosing. She hasn't "earned" a reduction but she may get one anyways. We're trying to figure it out over in the Lantus forum. Right now, she's running around like a kitten, screaming at me because she wants treats.
