Blood glucose meter comparision guide

I came across a blood glucose meter comparision guide that was published this past January in the Diabetes Forecast magazine: http://forecast.diabetes.org/files/images/v65n01_BG_Meters_0.pdf All of the big name brands are listed, even Relion. It mainly shows what sample sizes the meters use, type of battery used, and if coding is needed.

Thanks for posting. The chart showing the different sizes of blood drop needed is very enlightening! A great resource for those of us w/ kitties (or turnips) that don't like to bleed.

One thing I noticed, however, it says the Relion Ultima requires coding. Mine does not - maybe that was an earlier version of the same meter (?).

I totally disagree with the picture of the size drop of blood needed for the OTU. I never need more than what the picture for the Relion Micro shows and I've been using the OTU since '98. I do not use the OTU mini or the Ultra Smart....just the good old OTU. People need to try for themselves how small a drop is needed with their meter. Yes, they may waste a few strips but going by word of mouth and pictures is not much help. Each person should determine how much blood is needed by doing their own tests. Start with a small drop of blood, enough to be seen, and sip.
