Chicklet's mom

Member Since 2016
Hello everyone,

I posted this information in the Prozinc forum but thought I would also post it her. This is Chicklet's last BG curve. Chicklet is eating dry food. I am trying my best to switch her to wet food. I have to give her what she wants to eat as she is very at risk of hepatic lipidosis if she stops eating. I am continuing to try everything to get her eat high protein soft food. I have read all the resources but she still is resisting the change.

2 unit of Prozinc insulin

8:00 AM- 21 mol/l or 378 mg/dl

11:00 AM- 22.22 mmol/l or 399.96 mg/dl

2:00 PM-22.25 mmol/l or 400.5 mg/dl

5:00 PM- 23.77mmol/l or 427.86 mg/dl

8:00 PM- 22 mmol/l or 396 mg/dl

Questions:

1. When should I consider switching insulin?

2. What could be the cause for these numbers?

3. Will insulin even really work if she continues to eat dry food (and resist soft food)?

Thanks,

LM

You should think of changing insulins or performing other tests when dose is 5-6 units with little change in BG.
Your curve essentially shows no change in BG since accuracy of the meters is +/- 20% which for a nominal BG of 400 is 320 to 480.
The dry food will raise insulin needs/raise/cause little drop in BG.
Was a curve with 1 unit performed? How was the 2 units dose determined?
