bladder problems

Hannah Glory and I are usually on the Lantus topic, but she is doing great. I have another little boy who just came home from a week at the Vet with a blocked bladder, I have been told to only give him Hill's C/D food dry and canned, the Vet says all but Hannah Glory, the diabetic ,can eat it...............I have 16 cats and it is very expensive, I will of course do as told. You have all helped me so much with getting Hannah Glory very stable with her diabetes, I thought maybe someone might have some ideas to share about this problem............He is Moshe ben Davide and only 3 years old, was blocked one time before about 1.5 years ago, this time I spent $664.00 getting him better.....Any ideas ???? Priscilla

What was the cause of the blockage - crystals? Was Moshe on dry food previously?

If this is the case forget the expensive prescription food and go raw if you can or at least avoid dry food altogether. My Vyktor had the crystals twice when he was young but changing from dry food (and also I gave him bottled water but this might be a problem for you with that many cats) fixed the problem for him.

Thanks for the responses guys.......I knew someone out there would help...Well to answer your questions as best I can....................I used to have dry down 24/7 until Oct. then I pulled it all up and went to 2 canned meals a day with only a sprinkle on top of EVO, that was because of the diabetic, Hannah Glory...............So they get almost no dry food compared to what they were getting....About 3 weeks ago I went away for 3 days and 2 nights and took Hannah with me and put dry food down for everyone because my pet sitter no longer can come, so they only got dry food for those 3 days, could that have done it in such a short time? He did have this problem once before about 1.5 to 2 yrs ago, so he must be prone to it.............the blockage was from crystals...............I will look on Dr. Lisa,s site as you suggested. I thought I would just sprinkle the c/d on top instead of the EVO but I really thought that EVO was the very best.............Do you know of any "over the counter" wet food that is lower in those minerals that cause this?......thanks.....Priscilla

We changed to Wellness turkey only with added water and my nondiabetic is doing okay on this. I add water to everyone's food. For two 5.5 ounce cans, I add 1/2 cup of water. I put a little extra water in the dish for my guy with the bladder problems so his is more like soup. I hardly ever find anyone drinking out of the water bowl now since I add water to the food. Oh, when my himalayan had urinary problems, I found out that fish was a trigger for her so I don't feed any fish. I stayed with chicken and turkey but now just get turkey.

Dear Underdawg and Bo, thanks for the response I will give your suggestions a try for sure.........I just bought two electric fountains for everyones drinking water, after some cautious approaches, they all seem to be used to it.........I will still add water to the food, it will be good for all of them. Blessings, Priscilla
