Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience using this supplement with their kitties.

Alfred is OTJ but experiencing some seasonal allergies, I was hoping to boost his immune system a bit to try and help alleviate some of his mild symptoms.

This product seems good http://shop.bixbipet.com/collections/superfood/products/immunity?variant=236750675

It's a dried mushroom complex. I'm concerned about the carb content however.

Has anyone tried a similar product with their kitties? If so any feed back regarding how it worked, which product you used etc is much appreciated.

Thank you!

A quarter teaspoon is 0.5 grams. If it were 100% carbohydrate, that would be 1.75 calories from carbohydrate. And last I checked, mushrooms were pretty low carb. The only thing to wonder about is the polysaccharides.
By the way, for cats, there are:
3.5 calories per gram for protein
8.5 calories per gram for fat
3.5 calories per gram for carbohydrate.

Hi!
I don't know anything about Bixbi Immunity supplement, but I am interested in this subject.

I had a cat who had allergy, not particularly seasonal like Alfred, but all year around plus some food allergy.
I've used Allerplex (https://www.standardprocess.com/Products/Standard-Process/Allerplex#.VaFUnPlVhBc) for a short period of time after hearing good things about it from some members of the board.
It didn't raise her BG, but I stopped because it has bovine in it, and I suspected my cat might be allergic to beef.
Then, I considered Immuno Support or Liquid Immuno http://www.rxvitamins.com/petsproducts.html .
This Immuno Support also has mushroom in the ingredients like your Bixbi, so you might find their technical report interesting; here http://www.rxvitamins.com/Resources/Immuno Support TR - 2012.pdf

I ended up not buying this product either, because like you, I didn't understand how it worked.
Allergy occurs when the immune system attacks a harmless substance, so it means hyper active immune system, isn't it?
Aren't these immune support supplements supposed to "strengthen" one's immune system, and if so, aren't they for people/animal who have hypo active immune conditions?

Thinking about it, I got all confused.
When I spoke with my vet, she didn't think these supplements would help my cat's case (again not same as Alfred's condition), so that was that at the time.
I would love to hear more insights of wise people here on exactly what conditions these "immune support" supplements help.
Do they really help with allergy?

Hello,

Thanks for the replies. :)

I've been giving Alfred the immunity supplement and it doesn't seem to have any affect on his BG.

I can't say that I've really noticed any changes with his allergy symptoms either so I'll probably just give him the rest of what I have and if still no improvement then I'll stop giving it.

I also don't really understand the mechanism for allergic reactions so was just taking a shot in the dark! It doesn't seem to be doing any harm so I guess that's good at least. ;D

I work at a pet supply store and we sell the Bixbi product and I can say that there are a few customers who have dogs with cancer and they've reported better lab results since using the immunity supplement. So perhaps they are most useful in a compromised immune system situation rather than in a general "trying to alleviate random allergy symptoms" situation lol.
