I have a red bin (biohazard waste container) for my needles and lancets. Its almost to the full mark, and I have no idea what kind of places if their are if any that I can take them to so that they can dispose of them properly. I live in the Chicago Illinois area. Thanks.

My state requirements is to NOT use the biohazard containers, put my sharps in a non-transparent container - suggested best is a laundry soap or bleach container - and throw in regular trash. No one around here takes them without charging quite a fee - CVS has a service for $80/year. Even the vets don't take them as THEY have to pay by the pound. I think BJM posted a link to state's requirements not too long ago, I'll see if I can find it and edit to add it here....

EDIT TO ADD: HERE is the site:

Call your garbage company or check their website. If they don't allow them to go into the garbage they should know where they can be disposed of. We dispose of our in the trash in a sturdy plastic capped container.
