Hi everyone. I just took bears blood sugar level and it's 126. He's due for his evening shot in a few minutes. I'm thinking no shot tonight. I am just a little confused as to why he's dropping so much in the evenings. Ever since we increased his dose to 1.5 we've been getting low readings in the evening. Please help!

PS Luke made Bear's spreadsheet, if that would help with advise, check it out.

I know I am late for this evening's shot and I see you shot 1u tonight. You might think about going somewhere in between - 1.25u - and try to do that consistently. By going between 1.5u and 1u you are constantly depleting and filling the shed, so you won't see consistent numbers with that. You want to try to find a dose that will let you do the same dose morning and night. On days that you have those blue numbers for preshots - try to get a spot check in during the day if possible (when work allows or on weekends). By doing this often, you will be able to tell what numbers are more the pattern and which ones are the exception. This is better than doing one or two curves every other week because you can get a sense of a repeating pattern for Bear. (If you usually get more blue numbers than yellow/pink/red ones, or if you only get the occasional blue and are mostly pink etc).

Kelley is right, Lantus needs consistent dosing or you can see some strange drops and bounces. Please try to get some mid cycle tests in. Lantus dosing is determined by the lowest number of the day, usually about mid cycle, not on the preshot number. The preshot number shows you if it is safe to shoot. We also try to change the dose in .25u increments, so we don't miss a good dose.

If Bear keeps you at this dance long enough you may not even blink at a 126 for a preshot, but you will have loads of experience and data to draw upon. But you could be one of the lucky ones and Bear may go into remission quickly. :-D :-D :-D
