BG Testing on Tom update...

So I finally attempted the BG testing of Tommy and low and behold....he didn't hiss, yell, scream or attack. Apparently Anxious Annie here made more of a big deal about it than he did. I did fail at getting any blood, but I have to say, that the non-bad reaction from Tommy made up up for it. I attempted 3x and I figured I would give another try today after work. All in all, I felt really good about it and gave him his favorite turkey freeze dried treat and he was fine. Just like you all posted and all those youtube videos.

I have to thank you all for your advice and pep talk, it really helped. I am so glad I put on my big girl panties and just went for it and I didn't allow myself to be scared or nervous about it.

I am so appreciative of this site and I am in awe of your kindness and advice. You guys are AWESOME. :RAHCAT

If you absoultely must get blood, you can aim for the vein itself, rather than outside of it.

Just be prepared to get your test and BLOT before you have droplets of blood flung all over the place!
And keep pressure on it for a good minute or so to make sure it stops and doesn't make a huge bruise.

Those last 2 points are why we recommend to aim just outside the vein, on the edge of the ear - bruising and copious bleeding mess.

Glad to hear it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be. It took me a couple of tries before I could get (enough) blood to get a reading, but after just a few weeks, it takes me less than 20 seconds to get a reading. Just keep practicing!
