Hi, my cat's BG this morning pre-shot was 518 :( :( Is this still "normal" one week into treatment?? Any guidance appreciated...thanks.

It can vary quite a bit for one reading. If the cat found some other food to eat, stressed, a shot that didn't fully go in, etc can all make for a single high reading. I wouldn't stress too much over one bad number.

My cats first home test, 6 weeks into treatment was exactly 518. It's not uncommon but we wanna get that down.

My advice is to not focus on one number unless you get a lime green. It's very early in his treatment and you haven't begun adjusting the dose yet.

As you're able to get more consistent tests for both the AM and PM cycle (I know it can be hard at the beginning), we'll be able to help you safely adjust the dose. So glad to hear that it's starting to get easier! No one likes to see those high numbers, so hopefully once you're able to make some adjustments, it can bring those down!

Yay a picture! I just posted that on your other thread lol. Does he have a white chin? Looks like he has a black mustache with a white chin :cat:. What a cutie Tuxie pattern!

Just another supporting input, Maury was in red and black almost entire first month I was testing him. I had spot checks the first month and was always in the higher numbers too. Unfortunately, I had to shoot blindly for the first month. Week after his diagnosis I'm pretty sure I herniated a disc in my back. Felt like it took me 20+ minutes to get down to give him his shot but forced myself because I knew he needed the insulin, probably prolonged my recovery but at least I was home to stay in "hawk mode". Sorry for tangent, I prefer to give small explanation for why I couldn't immediately start home testing, since I now promote home testing right away :bighug:. Like we say, this is a marathon, not a sprint. We're right along side you :bighug:

Hi @Yong, wow what dedication to your feline! I'm sure he's appreciative :) Yup, Samson is a tuxedo with a white chin and chest. Thanks for all your support, hoping to see some more pinks and yellows soon!

He is my baby :cat:. Sorry to be bossy again, can you add the meter type in your Signature? I'm pretty sure you got the human glucometer but I don't want to rely on my memory :p
