I just tested Kitty 7 hours after his shot. 255! That's the lowest I've ever got! How can it be when I've tested before around this time and he's usually sky high!
Should I worry? I haven't changed anything. Does insulin take time to work? Confused.
Now I'm worried about a possible drop only because he's SO much lower than he normally is at this time.

Hey there, from what I've learned in my short time here is that half way between doses is their lowest BG number. Then they start to go up before their next dose. I think the low BG halfway through their cycle is called the Nadir and it's normal.
I think it's good and you don't need to worry but I am not an expert, my own cat was diagnosed in December so I am also new here. Someone else will chime in to correct me if I am wrong and can tell you more. @Critter Mom might know more as she was a great help when I joined along with many others whose names I cant recall right now.

Thank you. Yes I know they should be low in the middle, but he's never been low in the middle before. I'm just wondering 'what gives' here because he usually reads high at this time.

What was the AMPS number? Did you test before the shot? There is a chance that the glucose levels could have been lower at shot time which would explain why you have a lower number at +7. You can't judge each day by the numbers you got on another day since glucose levels can fluctuate for many reasons.

I had a look at your spread sheet and was wondering if you are doing AM pre shot BG readings as I didn't see any? Cali is caninsulin which I think is the same as Vetsulin, I am not sure when you feed Kitty but its recommended to feed them food before dosing insulin.

Caninsulin and Vetsulin are the same...just called by different names in different countries. Good point about the feeding. Because Caninsulin/Vetsulin is a faster acting insulin it is suggested to feed a good meal about 30 minutes before giving the shot. However, a reading should always be done first, before feeding, to make sure the number is safe to give the injection.

I haven't been doing a AMPS because I'm so rushed in the morning. I will start from now on.

It is important to do tests before any shot. There is no other way to know whether the numbers have dropped lower for whatever reason. This will make sure you are only giving the shot when the numbers are safe to do so. "Normally" the glucose levels will be higher before the shots as the insulin wears off, but it is always better to be sure. ;)

I know it's hard at first but you will find it easier and faster to do when you've been doing it a while.. I wasted so many strips my first week, went through 100 in 6 days, because I kept making mistakes. I am a lot better at BG's and make less errors as far as the amount of blood on strip.
