My name is Jo Ann. My cat's name is Big Shot. FDMB is very helpful in learning to manage my cat's diabetes
I began charting for tight regulation recently. An eye opening experience. I believe that I am following
the protocol for TR but feel very uncertain about things.

Big Shot was diagnosed in July, but I began charting for tight regulation only recently. He's on Lantus.
Big Shot is a 13 yr old Maine Coon, 19 lbs and the soul of my home.

I attached my spreadsheet. I am very uneasy seeing the BG readings jumping around.
Perhaps the readings are ordinary when attempting to lower insulin dosages.
But I don't know. I feel that I should hold the dosage course and the BG
readings will "settle down". BUT I DON'T KNOW.

I would appreciate comments about the attached spreadsheet.
Many Thanks, Jo Ann

It does look normal.... and it looks like you are good at testing during the day....
now ...
it would be wonderful for you to get some pm cycle data....

You might have really earned another decrease in dose ...
I suspect in the 11/18 pm cycle, you might have had another low number..... hence you saw 421 the following morning....
but that could also just be the reaction (bounce ) from the 43 earlier that day. You have to see it for it to count.

IMHO, I would reduce to 1.25 u.... and give that time to see how it goes.... 6 cycles at least unless you see another number below 50.

You are welcome to come post over in the TR forum.... you'll get a lot more help and eyes....

Mostly we ask for at least one other test each am cycle and pm cycle....

a +2 test is an excellent one to get.... and often tells us if the cycle is going to be an active one where you need to be monitoring....
For some that can be a just before bed test....
most cats go lower in bg during the night cycle .

With Lantus, the dose is determined by the lowest number in the cycle....
not those high numbers....

those higher numbers are a reaction in your case to some lower numbers....

As Big Shot gets closer to the right dose.... he will flatten out a little ( that's the hope)
So you have to learn to ignore those bounces and let the insulin do it's job.

This is normal...
and I can say that fortunately, Big Shot isn't bouncing all the way up.... so that's good.

You should reduce his dose tonight.... by 0.25u ....
that's going to be right in the middle between your half unit markings.....

The next time you see a low number like that.... post and ask for help. Come on over to the TR forum.

In this forum, you don't shoot a number less than 200 at preshot test.....

If your goal is remission.... then you will shoot lower....
I see you've done it before...

we give food when numbers are low to get the numbers back above 50....
I can't tell if you did that a few days ago.
