Rocky has been on insulin since April of this year. His numbers were never really high like some I've seen. However, recently when I test (especially) in the afternoon, his numbers have been below 140 sometimes below 100. I then question whether he should have his shot or not. He takes 1 1/2 units of ProZinc in the morning and usually 1 unit at night.
I have talked to my vet about this, but she doesn't really tell me exactly what to do. I guess I should use my own judgement, but I'm still confused. @-)

Are those the numbers before shot time? If not, when are you seeing them after the shot?

I don't know how to make a spread sheet and since I don't test but once or twice a day, I didn't see the need. I do keep a record of when I test etc. The bg numbers are before shots!

Ok well how do you know if he needs a decrease then? You really need to get some mid cycle tests to see how low he is going... And you don't want a hypo on your hands!!

Dose adjustments are made by seeing how low the glucose goes, the nadir.

With ProZinc, this is sometime between 4 - 6 hours after the shot. If you could get some tests within that time frame, we can make a suggestion.

In general, the glucose should go no lower than 50 mg/dL on a human meter at the low point
