Trying not to panic, gave him some high carb food and a little honey, what should I be watching for and what do I do next?

Do you have any gravy lover food? If so squeeze out a tbsp of gravy and give to her and test again in 15-20 mins to make sure she's on the rise. Keep testing about every 20 and giving carbs if she's not rising.

As for honey perhaps a teaspoon drizzled on some wet food if she'll eat. (will she eat?).

Yes, he is eating some high carb dry food right now, probably a quarter of a cup. Should I give him more honey?

Probably wait for your next test to give anything else on top of the honey you already gave I think. I'd do 15 minute intervals for testing.

Give honey again since you just tested - test every 10-15 since so low. If still same/dropping give more honey each test.

If you have gravy food squeeze some gravy on whatever she'll eat.

If your cat is testing in low numbers and you are not getting a quick response to your post, there are several things you need to do. (Low numbers are under 50mg/dL or 2.8 mmol/L.)

  • Depending on how carbohydrate sensitive your cat is, feed approximately a teaspoon or less of gravy from high carb food or high carb food only.
(If you have a cat with GI issues, using a couple of drops of syrup plus low carb food is an alternative.)
  • Test again in 15 – 20 min. Depending on the numbers, give more HC food.
  • Repeat the above steps every 15 – 20 min. until your cat tests in the 50 mg/dL (2.8 mmol/L) or above range for 2 consecutive tests. Continue to feed in small amounts to keep numbers in a safe range.
  • Test in 30 - 40 min. and repeat the test and feed process until there are 2 consecutive tests where numbers are stable or rising.
  • Test in an hour and follow the same steps.

No gravy food on hand but I have dry kitten food, giving him that,he likes it and is eating it. He's acting okay, drinking, grooming cleaning up the honey, seems to be walking okay.

Give some more honey, about tsp, if you haven't already, and check again 10 mins after your last test. Gotta get #'s on rise fast. Honey/gravy act quick, dry food takes about an hour or more like Laura mentioned.

Once this clears I'd go grab some hearty gravy-lover cat food.

just making sure you see this - at 22 you need to go to the vet immediately. If someone else can drive, take your glucometer and the karo/honey and just go.

no, i live out in the middle of nowhere. I just tested him agsin hes up to 48 should I give more honey?

That's great. More honey on the gums with your finger if you can't make to vet. Get another test in 10 mins.

Remember honey is short acting and will only raise BG's for 10-20 mins I believe. Going to have to keep giving at intervals (give some real food too, dry food, etc.).

48: how long ago was the shot given?
offer a little food. dry if that's all you have.

is there any human food that's high in carbs that squallie likes? if so , let him have some.
we want to get his numbers up no matter what you have to feed him.

retest in 20 minutes.

Last shot was 4 hours ago. Squallie ate some dry food a bit ago she said.

You're in Jill's capable hands, so I will bow out. :bighug:

And just to make sure you know, this dose is too high, so don't give it again tonight.

According to what I see on his ss, it appears Squallie usually nadirs around +7.
Looks to me like like you'll have to simply keep on doing what you've been doing for the next several hours or until you're seeing a substantial rise in numbers.

Edited to add:
you're doing a really good job!
how are you feeling?
do you have a good supply of test strips on hand?

Thank you. I'm a mess. I just bought a new pk of test strips so I'm okay there.

is this right, more or less? I'm just trying to keep track of where we are in the cycle.

AMPS - ???? gave 6 units
+3.25 ~ 34 (gave high carb and finger full of honey)
+3.5 ~ 29 (dry food and honey)
+3.75 ~ 22 (honey)
+4 ~ 48
+4.25 ~ 61
