BG hasn't adjusted much. Is this normal?

Gracie is currently OTJ and has been for a few weeks. I still test but not very frequently or consistent. I took today off though and have decided to get a few extra tests in.

She's just chilling in the 40's. Her BG hasn't done much. Should this be alarming at all? I would have expected that after she ate for it to jump up a little then naturally bring herself down. It appears to have not done that. It is +/- a few digits of where she was before AMPS.

Or it could be that I waited to long to test after eating to see if there was in fact a "spike"?

Many healthy kitties don't have much of a spike from eating, though if she was going to have one, it would likely have been sooner after she ate. Food typically hits their system around 30 minutes after they eat, and may continue to rise for a little while after that (depending on what they ate). The more carbs, the more impact on BG, so since you've continued feeding her low carb, it likely won't show a huge increase.

Also one of the signs of pancreas kicking in we’ve noticed in kitties on the juice is that BG either stays the same or drops after eating. I’d assume it’s the same for OTJ kitties. My thinking is that the food arrives causing BG to begin to go up...this kicks pancreas into gear and they produce insulin to bring it back down to normal levels...by +3 I’d expect her to be around AMPS number really.

She seems to be consistently in the 40s. We’ve had other cats here with similar OTJ numbers so as others have said I wouldn’t worry if she seems okay. Just like in humans normal for cats will vary from cat to cat.

Always good to have that reassurance. Thank you!

Interesting she was higher today...not bad numbers still though. May just be a weird day or something. :)

She's still under 120, so I wouldn't worry too much. Sometimes they are stressed about something, or just having an off day as Rachel said.

Yuck. As Kris said, keep testing. Hopefully she'll self-correct. You're still just feeding the FF classics and low carb treats, right? She hasn't been sneaking any cupcakes?

Well, I am ashamed to admit. I thought it was FF classic. It was FF, but it was "Seafood grilled". I just reviewed my latest purchase from Chewy and it appears I ordered the wrong food, as I just checked the food list. She's been getting cans with 15g carbs!!!! BUT! She has only ate 4 cans.

Sorry Gracie!
That explains why she LOVES it.

Lol....also explains the high BG numbers! Run run run to the store and get back on the Classics. Not nearly as tasty, but much better for her fragile little pancreas. Maybe smear a 1/2 t of the grilled on top for a few days to soften her disappointment. ;)
