BG dropped, help!

Maytons BG dropped to 107 for his pre shot this morning, my dad was caught off guard seeing this so he took it again and it was 89. He then fed Mayton some grain free wet food with a sprinkle of dry on top. When he was almost done eating my dad gave him the full insulin shot. 2 minutes later he threw up all of his food!!! My dad doesn't know much about this stuff so he woke me up. I just gave him his dry DM food because I didn't know what to do and I didn't want it to go low since he got a full insulin shot. Is what I did right? Is 89 a number for me to even worry about? He is usually in the 300s but we are transitioning him to wet food so we expected his numbers to go down, but not this much!

Hi Mackenzie, did Mayton keep the DM down? How long ago was the shot given? You may want to post in the Lantus forum as they have more experience with that insulin. @Doodles & Karen @Bobbie And Bubba

Shot was given around 6:30am I think. It's currently 7:45am now. He did keep all of the dry food down. I think he threw up the wet food because he ate too much or too fast.

I agree-- Lantus forum is the place to go for expert help on this. You'll probably need to do a lot of monitoring and feeding/steering today, so get your supplies in order now: strips, high-carb food (do you have any HC besides the kibble, wet food or food with gravy on hand?), karo syrup or honey.

Are you able to watch him all day today?

Since he ate, I'm sure he'll be fine, but Nan is right, you'll need to get some more tests in and make sure you have some high carb food/syrup, just in case. Go ahead and post on the Lantus forum though.

Yes I will be home all day, the only place I was planning to go was the pet store to get more fancy feast.

Yes, just adding: I didn't mean to scare you too much with my post! I just believe in being prepared for these situations-- Mayton may be totally fine all day and not even need any more interventions, it's just that he's never been this low pre-shot so we don't really know how he's going to react.

Yeah it's better to be prepared. He is just sleeping right now. I'll do a test in 30 minutes
