Could someone pls check chatran sheets and let me know what it means - the big drop this morning. Is it good or bad thing? Thank you

Hi Rosie,

It looks like you're in the middle of an active cycle - Lantus is doing it's job to pull those high numbers down. Chatran went from 14 at AMPS to 8.9 at AM +3. If my math is correct, that's a drop from 252 to 160 in U.S. numbers (mg/dl). Most kitties reach nadir (the low point of the cycle) on Lantus somewhere between 5 to 7 hours after the shot. I don't know how far past the shot you are right now, but I would recommend trying to get in a couple of more tests - like around +5 and +7 maybe. This will be a perfect time to get those extra tests in to let us know how well this specific dose might be working.

Great to see that blue on Chatran's spreadsheet. The Lantus is doing it's job so this is a good thing.

One suggestion I'd make is to try getting a test in the evening cycle. Often cats (like mine) prefer to do their lowest numbers at night. If you could get a test before going to bed, it'll help you decide how well Chatran is doing on a particular dose.

Since Chatran is new to these type of numbers, it's possible you'll see a bounce which higher numbers as a result. The second entry on this thread explains what happens in a bounce. It's normal for newly diagnosed cats, you just have to wait it out.

Thank you Wendy and shelly :YMHUG:

I feel a bit good, I've been stressing all morning, I thought he's going hypo :?

Yes I will do more test today

NO, a BG of 29 is too low. I would try to feed some high carb food but better yet syringe feed some sugar syrup like Kero. Giving a full dose of insulin with little eating can lead to low BG.

Hi Rosie,

That 29 mmol (522 U.S.) is high. What you were seeing was most likely a bounce. Mr. Kitty's liver isn't used to seeing normal numbers, so when the insulin brings those numbers down into the normal range (or even simply just lower numbers than the kitty is used to), the liver panics and releases lots of extra sugar. That's called a bounce. There's not much you can do about them; the kitty's liver simply has to re-learn what it's like to be in lower numbers. One of our members, Julie & Punkin, wrote about bounces towards the end of the second post in this thread: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=46012.

Chatran doesn't look good, it's like he fainted. Is this normal?

Can you explain a little more?

Shelly

Thank you shelly. Chatran was so tired and look depressed after his shots and doesn't want to eat again. He looks a bit better now. Thank you for caring.

I saw yesterday's post about not eating.

Here are some things to try. And if he eats these readily, you'll know it's just he's not liking his food choices.

fried chicken.... from a store or restaurant.... peel off the fried skin and give him the meat inside.
deli meats .... read the label.... pastrami is good, turkey, chicken..... mine loves ham but it's hard to find it without sugar.....but you 've got to get some food.
human can of tuna.....

if these work, you can try putting some on his canned food to get him to eat that too.

also.... if you boil chicken, does he like that? Mine won't eat it but some cats love it.

Thank you Rhiannon. Will definitely try the above food suggestions. Mine won't eat boil chicken neither.

It's just sometimes he's like nauseated. He's still got the flu and I think that's another reason he won't eat.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Rosie

if he starts like he's interested.... smells the food.... and then kinda smacks his lips and turns away....
that's nausea.

ask your vet for a prescription for ondansetron ( Zofran) .
it's a human drug. if you can get it in 4mg.... it's easier to break.... dosage is 1 mg

Hi Rosie,

It might be worth asking the vet for some cyproheptadine for appetite stimulation, too. Even if you don't need to give it at the moment, it can be handy to have some on standby.
