Hi Everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for replying any help is appreciated.

Ham's BG's are all over the place. Not sure if he's getting to much insulin or not enough or if he's bouncing? I thought we were through the bounces since we've been on this dose for a while. I also put him on a small diet (half a can 3 times a day and a whole can when i leave for work) and started walking him for some exercise so maybe that has to do with it? Or maybe it's due to the loss of his civvie brother? I have kept almost everything the same so there wasn't a dramatic change. Can someone take a look at his ss and let me know any opinions?

Next, in a couple of weeks my work schedule is going to change from second shift to first. Which is great but I don't know how to go about changing Ham shot times. I do not believe I am going to be able to do it gradually. So I was thinking skipping his pm shot and just starting in the morning?

Thanks again!!

I'm not qualified to give advice, but I wanted to give you a hug of support :bighug: and say you are doing a great job with Ham. Wishing you the best in getting him regulated.

With the recent 47 and 45 his dose should be reduced back to at least 7u. If there is a big schedule change and you can't move back gradually then yes, I would skip and get on the schedule you need. I see DKA and ketones in your signature so we don't like to skip but one cycle shouldn't make a big difference.

I agree with Karen, those numbers in the 40s at the current dose warrant a decrease in dose. Also, TR calls for at least one mid cycle test each cycle.

Are you monitoring regularly for ketones ?

Skipping a shot when the time comes to accommodate your work shift change is fine. Think of it as a fur shot.

I can not get a mid cycle test during the day due to work. I can only get it in the weekends.

No I have not been testing for ketones... I thought I only have to worry about ketones if his BG was high. How often should I be checking him for ketones?

Numbers don't need to be crazy high for ketones to develop. I would get in the habit of checking a couple times per week, particularly since your kitty has a history.

Regarding TR testing around work schedules, there are great tips here.

Thanks... I'll starting getting more BG tests and start testing for ketones.

I'm guessing you are not going to be able to move Ham's shot in 15 min. increments and get him on your new work schedule. Probably the easiest way to make the transition is to skip a shot. Once you're past the +12 point, you can shoot at any time.

Ok my new schedule starts this sat. I work my last night on second shift thurs. Now my concern is for a week maybe 2 I'm going be working 12 hour shifts so Ham's shots are going to be +13 one and +11 the other. I'm also going to be getting a timed feeder to try to lower his BG swings. I read that smaller meals more often will help with that?
