My cat is recovering from dka, pancreatitis and acidosis over last weekend. He is doing really well and today his earlier checks were in the 200's, but this one is 87. This is when I usually give him his insulin. Do I give it to him? or do I wait and recheck tomorrow morning? And I, of course, ran out of testing strips so I can't recheck his level in 20 minutes. Please advise. Thank you!!

I’m not one of the experts here, so I’m not sure what to say. Normally I would suggest that if you don’t have any more test strips, 87 is too low to shoot, but recovering from DKA, etc. complicates things. Two questions:

What insulin are you using?

It says you’re in LA - can you run out to a Walmart and grab a Relion Prime meter and test strips? I know you use the Alpha Trak now, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a human meter too, if only for backup.

Any experts who can help here?

Edit: sorry, missed Lantus in your sig.

Thanks for responding! Unfortunately I can't get out tonight, but I plan on getting a human meter tomorrow morning.

I will repost in the lantus forum.

Thank you!
