Best Time to Test for Ketones??

No. I have the Abbott Exceed/Precision meter and I've tested myself just to see what my normal B blood ketones was, they should be 0.0. And then I tested Simba to see what his normal was as diabetic and that ranged from 0.0-0.2.
I do spotchecks whenever I feel like it even if we are normal.
In that way I learned first hand on Simba what then is abnormal.

OH OK Thanks!!:):bighug:

It's best not to wait for symptoms, but there are things that can trigger ketones, and it's good to test then. Such as skipped insulin dose, not eating enough, etc. Often I see folks test when these things happen rather than a specific time of day. Now, if you are testing regularly just to be safe, that's awesome, so don't stop.

Thank you Amethyst was rushed to the hospital 2 weeks ago I thought she had either DKA OR pancreatitis She had neither Thank God.BUT she had a UTI first time ever for her Very Painful:( I had not been testing for Ketones because her numbers have been safe However NOW I will test her everyday no matter what The UTI caused her Ketone numbers to be Moderate Thankfully she was only kept overnight She is on her last couple of doses of Clavamox and much better:):bighug::bighug::bighug:

So happy Amethyst (beautiful name!) is feeling better! And you go right on testing those ketones, that's awesome! What type of wet food is she on? If you choose foods lower in phosphorus, that might help her avoid UTIs in the future. I'm sure you already know that, but I like to be thorough.

Thank you:bighug::bighug::bighug:I see Billy and Amethyst both use Inhalers Amethyst is on the Flovent she unfortunately also needs Steriods and I am sure you know that the inhaler is better than the shots Thank you for your help and support:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Billy has taken Flovent as well, and that's my plan for when he needs help again. Luckily, inhaler steroids don't raise blood sugar, or so they tell me. Have you talked to you vet about possibly giving Amethyst half a tablet of Zyrtec once a day? It's really helped my Billy, though he still needs the inhalers on occasion.

Ketone tests daily please. Time of day is not a factor in getting a ketone test. Whenever you can catch Amethyst in the litter box.

We've had way too many DKA kitties lately. Daily ketone testing lets you catch those ketones early enough to try and doing something about it before it turns into full blown DKA.

p.s. Waving to you from the north shore. :joyful:
