I'm only about a week into this and my cat is already squirming when the needle touches his skin, before I even pushed it in. I tried this morning distracting him with some freeze dried chicken treats and he wasn't buying it.

Should I try something other than the shoulder/neck area or keep at it? I know everything is harder at the beginning but this cat is darn smart and holds grudges so I don't want to push if I don't have to.

found insulin to be more effective and injection not bother my cat if i inject on his lower side areas. i only use the gruff (he doesn't like it either) once in a while when i want the insulin to absorb slower. make sure to tilt the needle at an angle when you go to put it into skin, it hurts less i think.

Thanks. So down by his haunches? Or just the side of his belly.

side area, upper or lower is fine but, don't get close to spine area. i do in center areas located between top of back and belly area and about 2" away from his legs. basically center of his sides.

This might help:

Mine don't even feel it in the scruff, so that's what I've found best -- I did try flank several times, but they seem more sensitive there and I ended up with fur shots. But ECID, of course.
