Where is your preferred injection site?

We are newly diagnosed this week. We started in the scruff. He didn't care for us messing with his neck and my husband had trouble with it. Then we switched to his side. It went well for 2 injections. This morning it was near impossible to pull the skin up, let alone part his fur well. He was super pissed and went from being happy being pet to biting and clawing. I think he is pissed about adding in the bg ear testing or is starting to feel a little better on the insulin.

So what is easiest? What do you recommend for an intolerant cat?

I'm still new at this, but my cat was not happy at all about getting a side injection. She will only let me shoot in the scruff area (I have been moving around from right, center, left so that I'm not constantly sticking the same location). Have you tried to sit down, pet your cat for little while first, then give him the shot? I find that my cat is more accepting if I pet her a few times before giving her then shoot then pet her a few times after the shot as well. Also, you could try giving him a low carb treat after his shot. My kitty gets low carb treats after her b/g tests and she is now a lot better than she was the first week about sitting still and not hiding from me.

I have always used the scruff/mid back for both Jack and Samantha.

Jack didn't have much meat on the side from weight loss and when I tried the side he was like "That is NOT happening!"

He got feisty with the shot as he got better but only a couple times. I think he saw that Samantha was getting the same treatment and guess he figured it was no use in protesting. Daddy has gone mad, The whole house is under attack! Better to save lives and surrender.

The treat also helps oh so much. Samantha likes to moan about the test, so I show her the bag of treats and ask if she is going to be a good girl. She knows that Good Girls get treats and lots of extra love and affection.

There are some videos on youtube about shots that were mentioned here. Pulling the hair versus the skin. I used that method and it made it somewhat easier for Samantha's shots. I thought about shaving Samantha, then I thought I wanted to keep as much of my blood IN my body as possible. More so her reaction to it.

I'll go look at the videos again. I wish he would eat a treat. He is really, so far, refusing anything that is not chow or cat tuna. Only option is catnip or playing for a treat so I'll have to try that.

The flat shot (pulling the hair gently instead of a roll of skin) works best for us. Mona is feeling better now and is not as tolerant of the scruff shot as she was when she was feeling so poorly. Also, bribery of any kind.

Can you describe how to do the flat shot? I haven't stumbled upon it in any of my research yet. Thank you!

Thank you so much! I had tried searching and couldn't find it. Hopefully this will bother him less. Now if I can get him to stop spazzing over the bg test....
