Hey: I'm back after a long hiatus, with a new diabetic, senior kitty.

What lancet are you using? I have an Autolet that came with the glucometer, but I keep missing, missing and the kitty is not loving it and I am getting gun-shy. I used Accu-Check on Stubbie for five years and it was fine. Do you like that one?

My senior, HOPE, is a tortie, which makes finding a vein a bit, er, challenging.

Thanks for input here!

I also did free hand lancing with BD 28 gauge. I have hand/finger injuries so the chunkier feel of the BD's worked for me.

I also free hand with the lancet and use the WalMart ReliOn 26 gauge 'Alternate Site' lancets as I was having trouble in the beginning getting a large enough sample from the smaller gauge lancets. I am still using Disco's paw and he is being so good about that and knows he gets a Vital Essentials treat afterwards so anytime he sees me sit on the bed by the supplies drawer in the nightstand, he's right there!

We're new to testing and using the FreeStyle Lite 28 gauge lancets with the lancet device that came with the FreeStyle Lite monitor.

We tried to freehand a few times, and while it was definitely way more accurate, our poke depth was too deep or too shallow and not quick enough to avoid our kitty flinching. So we've been using the lancet device with more success.

It sounds gruesome but when I've poked right through the ear I got my sample first and apologized later. I know it's a cliché but somehow cats and dogs do know when you're trying to help otherwise they'd be hiding in the basement. :blackeye:
I know I would.
