Best canned food for diabetic cats?

Hi! I was giving Joey Fancy Feast Classics at first, but read that Wellness is better for him. I switched him to Wellness Chicken last week, but he is getting tired of it already. I would like to give him food that will be consistent in nutrition, calories and carbs so that I could start to eliminate some of the factors that may be causing flucuations during his BG tests.

I read that Merrick's is good? Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading.

IMO, the "best" canned food to feed is the one that is low carb, your cat likes to eat, and you can afford and can easily find in the local stores  The higher end brands aren't necessary better than the ones you can find at the supermarket. Fancy Feast is what many people feed with good results. It's inexpensive and available nearly everywhere.

Some people rotate a few different brands so their cat doesn't get bored. Others feed mostly a inexpensive brand and occasionally feed a premium brand.

I think Merrick only has a few regular varieties that are ok. The Before Grain ones are ok but make sure that they are the 96% meat or fish ones, not the 100% supplement only ones. Some stores still sell the 100% ones right alongside the 96% ones and the labels are exactly the same. There's a picture of the labels in this thread: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=39561&hilit

Try Nature's Variety Instinct and Innova EVO. My diabetic liked those brands.

Merricks Cowboy Cookout and Surf and Turf flavors are low carb, and have almost an optimal Protein/Fat/Carb content for cats. Plus, a lot of cats seem to really like them. They are mostly beef, and some cats have a beef intolerance, but mine handles beef fine so he really loves them.

(Just some personal advice if you do pick some up--unless you're feeding whole cans at a time, refrigerate the cans before you open them up. The food is very mushy, and it's hard to portion out when it is at room temperature.)
