Hey everyone. I posted this in Apollo's condo today, but thought it would be better served to make it's own dedicated topic.

I am putting together a hard copy of a bunch of stickies from the forum to take to my vet along with a copy of Apollo's spreadsheet to show him how we are doing. I assume everyone has already done this, but if not it really might be helpful to spread the word about alternatives to Humulin N. My vet (still learning) said depending on how Apollo does he has 5 more cats that he treats that he would strongly consider switching to Lantus. So many vets and diabetic cat owners are just not aware of Lantus (and how it works) and I want to do my part to help spread the word. If I could help 1 diabetic cat it's all worth it.

Here is an idea I thought of. Maybe it's worth putting together a 1 document "packet" in pdf format, that you can hand to your Vet or to a newly diagnosed cat owner as a starting point to let them learn more about treating using Lantus? Maybe it has a copy of a veterinary article detailing how to treat with Lantus & home testing (to show you're not making this up), copies of most of the stickies just in a nice order with a table of contents or something? Maybe it could be a Google Doc that can edited/maintained by the forum Mods and printed by anyone whenever needed? Maybe someone else can think of a better way to create and share it? I'm just thinking out loud here. Easier it is for everyone the better. Knowledge is power.

Just an idea I thought I'd share. Thanks again everyone for your support.

That's such a great idea John!

I know I would definitely have appreciated a "one-stop-shop" for the really important stuff to know right away upon dx.
There's a ton of information, in a bunch of different places - and thanks to all the folks who have given their time and expertise to post the info here! - but it can be quite overwhelming at first. Where to start? What to read first? So, I agree that a "diabetic cats for dummies" created from the info that's already here would be super-useful :-D

Great idea. Right now its kinda hard to pick out the basics from the wealth of details. A Dummies guide would help you get over the initial hump and provide a nice "initiation". The hard part with writing "intro" docs though is where to draw the line in providing too much detail.
