After nearly a year and a half Bear may be going back on the juice. This morning I woke up and he was hiding and walking like he's drunk and he hardly ate his breakfast. This cat live for his meals and always wakes me in the morning when it's time to eat. I have him on wheat gluten free varieties of fancy feast and it's odd because there where no other signs in the prior days. All of a sudden he's walking weird. Not drinking a lot of water though so I'm a little thrown off this morning.
My boyfriend is out of town so my emotional support isn't around and I fear it may be something worse. His appt is in an hour:(

most strips work past their expiry date..I used my old ones for years. That said, there are one or two brands that don't. Still, I'd try them out and see if you have time prior to going to the clinic.

back from the vet and they did a full panel on him and I won't know the results until tomorrow. Vet said the urine wasn't diluted and he didn't feel comfortable giving me a diagnosis until the results are in. He was concerned that it may be a kidney issue given the history of diabetes and I haven't had a full panel done in 2 years. I'm of course thinking the worst right now and not sure what to do in the mean time. He won't let me test him as he's hiding in the far corner under the bed and I think I might try later and give him some space since he hates the vet and just got stuck.

It doesn't sound a whole lot like diabetes. No hunger or water consumption or weight loss? I know it's hard to wait on test results, but it could just as easily be something less difficult than diabetes. Which you have already successfully dealt with. I would just let him have the afternoon off, love him up and maybe both of you can relax for a bit.

He weighed in at 10.5 lbs which is one pound lighter than he was 10 months ago. I'm just afraid it's something worse than diabetes and you're right I shouldn't jump to conclusions as it could be less difficult. He at least is purring when I love on him:)

ketones? pancreatitis?

I'm going to do a little research on on pancreatitis as I'm not familiar with this as much as I am with feline nutrition and kidney issues

Ok I called the hospital and they said based on the symptoms I told them I need to bring him in for observation. I was able to find a ride out there so we are off in about 1/2 hr.
*crossing fingers he's going to be ok*

I will update when I know more. Thanks for the support everyone I've been a total basket case today

Emergency vet took BG and xrays. She found nothing in the xray that was abnormal. So basically they don't know either and he's being kept overnight for observation and given IV fluids since he's dehydrated. Poor little guy peed himself on the way over. I'm going to call in the morning to see how he's doing.
