Well, just an update and the Bean and her situation.... she was caught 2 times - QUICKLY - getting into Gumpy's K/D and Slappy's dry... She did not get much but she is FAST at it..... Yesterday pm her numbers were a bit high 232 from 90 the day before! Then, this am, they were 301, so she got .50 and will test +5 and see how she is doing! What a bummer! mommy has to take care of the other girls, and we only feed for about 30 min then it is all taken up! Slappy is a very very slow eater and Gumpy is not that fast now that she is having her issues..

I do have a question, Mommy forgot to change the lancet out before I tested this am, is that really bad? should I address this w/ the vet? I would think it is ok, but thought I would throw it out there anyway! The carbs on the Hills K/D read about 35! Slappy is now eating the Blue Buffalo - Indoor, dont see it on the dry list, but I am sure it is not that low of carbs, but probably lower than Purina One. I know it doesnt take much to change Beans numbers! Hopefully, I did not shoot too much as this is 1/2 the dose she should get... I have started my ss - hope I am doing it right...

Gumpy gets another doc visit around 2-3 today and new vet on Monday...One that is closer to our house... Wish her luck, her last bp which was thursday,  around 6 pm was in the low 200 :-(!!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Well, now you know that Bean is very carb sensitive. Hope you will be able to eventually switch everyone over. Once a diabetic, always a diabetic, so even if Bean gets off insulin, she can't eat dry food.

Some people use their lancets more than once. I always figured they were cheap and I didn't want to take a chance on them being dull and hurting. Once won't be a problem.

Since she was doing well without insulin, I would get some tests in today. Hard to predict where her numbers might go.

Dearest Bell, and, of course, you too, sweet again Ms. Bean -- and, let's include the furry Greek chorus watching everything, Gumpy and Slappy,

You're a family. Life happens. Kids and kidimals generally want to eat whatever another kid or kidimal has. It's like gravity. It just is.

I can tell you that as a kid, I ONLY ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch -- for years. I'm talking my mom would get soooooo sick of making them -- and had the best jelly jar/glass collection east of the Rockies -- for years. A couple of times my school lunchmates would get sick of their lunch and offer to switch with me. So, being accommodating, I'd switch. And then, I'd come from school and tell my mom about this most wondrous lunch I had that day that was called salami and swiss cheese! Mom, bless her heart, would run to the commissary, and buy salami and swiss, and packed in it my next lunch. I came home hungry and asked where was the PB&J?

I'm amazed she didn't give me away to gypsies. I'm sure there must have been a chance or three along the growing little kid life highway...

Would it be possible for Ms. Bean to perhaps dine alone? I know, no one wants to eat alone; but, it's a thought... If that's not possible, it's not the end of the sugar dancing with Ms. Bean world. It'll just make it more interesting and challenging because of BG fluctuations...

I'm used to a more interesting and challenging sugar dance world because I have free fed one dancing grazer, Giz, (who did get DM dry in addition to grilled meats) and do free feed Nikki (who likes and only eats Fancy Feast low carb wet food)... It was/is challenging and interesting because there was/is always food on board. Well, unless you count the possibility of basically the world's possibly largest hairball thrown today, so Nikki's PS was 301 (about 150-200 points higher than normal). And, yes, it was so huge it caused my gagging a lot on clean-up... It was actually pretty impressive. Her hairball, not my gagging...

My whole hairball/free feeding digression is to simply remind you why we humbly suggest home testing, dearest Bell. Life happens, that we cannot control. However, knowledge is power, and having a collection of BG data is most informative... And, truly helpful to help you help Ms. Bean.

As you probably know, I free hand lancets. Nikki requires a get in/get out/get away as quickly as possible testing technique. (Otherwise, I just might as well test my own BG because of being bitten...) Sometimes this requires two pokes, one right after the other using the same lancet with my left hand, whilst my right hand is holding her ear, and the rest of me is basically holding Nikki between my legs and a capped syringe in my mouth. If it takes more than two quick pokes, I take a deep breath, drop the used lancet on the coffee table, and grab a new one, uncap it, and try again. Meaning, I know you use a device. After you test, just train yourself to take the lancet out of the device at the same time you take the strip out of the meter. Make sense? It's actually time/motion efficiency in the sugar dance...

It'll all come together, dearest Bell. You'll come up with the routine that works best for you and Ms. Bean. Trust me!

Please know we're keeping you and Gumpy in our hopeful, healing thoughts and prayers.

Much love and countless hopeful, healing, encouraging hugs for you all,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, who taught me anything is possible living with a sugar cat...

wow, i use the same lancet for a day or two. just seems ok.
i've got about 10,000 of them so it's not a cost thing, we've just always done it that way.

Dearest Deb & Nikki! we made it thru the 34 (+6) and up to 74 on a +4 after the 34! Damn, (sorry) = I HATE THIS crap!
Gumpy and Bean together, making me crazy! tough nite and all are doing well.... Guess I will NEVER give a .5 again! She has eaten, played and played great!, gone outside to do 'her thing', all is well w/ my Sugar Bean.... we all eat at the same time, it just takes time... she will not eat the wet that Gumpy has to, however she will eat her dry.....Slappy will NOT eat any wet, so she gets some lower carb, still not low enough for Bean, but she is adapting from her eeeky dry she used to get.... Gumpy cannot eat any other than her k/d.... I get up at 4:30ish to be at work at 7 so i can feed separately... is working most of the time,,,, BEAN is very sneeky to the dry... what a butt hole (lol) but she is who she is! BUT, mommy is not gonna keep playing this game of feed, feed, feed from the time I get home til I go to bed!
Slappy eats soooooooooooooo slow! makes me angry! she will learn to hurry up or I guess go hungry! I carry her to my room so I can monitor in the am.... Gumpy only gets dry for the first 10 min. while Bean is eating her wet.... Guess Mommy is tired tonite!
Sounds all so easy!
Gumpy's numbers were 165 at the vet after approx. 45 min., so I guess that is ok.... meds tonite and she is still acting sooo strange... What am I to do???? Wish she would just get better!
Lori, I have probably used the lancet more than once if truth be known... Just worried that might pose a problem later down the line.. Nice to hear that that could be ok.
tytyty for all the hugs and well wishes from all!

Dearest Bell, and, of course, you too, sometimes sweet and sometimes not so sweet Ms. Bean -- and, always the furry Greek chorus, Gumpy and Slappy,

Okay, let's just forget about dining alone. With your full plate, shopping for separate linens and candles is out of the question!

We'll just take them in order of your response.

You've got your big girl panties on. It's okay to say, THIS SUCKS!!! Because it does, dearest Bell. It just does. But (and sometimes buts are good!), there is this saying that "God doesn't give you more than your plate can handle". There is the lesser known ending to that saying that is, "because He gives you good friends". Food for thought on that heavy plate of yours...

I think it's good families all eat at the same time. That way they can talk about their day and communicate. Quite frankly, Bell, I'm starting to feel for Slappy in the greater scheme of your family food life... I mean Ms. Bean needs to eat what she needs to eat; Gumpy is eating what she's used to and needs to; and, there's Slappy adapting from her eeky dry to whatever and still likes to eat s-l-o-w-l-y...

And then, there's you, dearest Bell. We need to help you find you and a way to make this work. What time would you really have to wake up to be at work at 7 if you didn't have this, well, forgive me, dysfunctional feeding schedule you're dealing with? Would three automatic feeders work? Would Slappy be the one who prefers her own dining arrangement? Think outside your sleep deprived box for what will work for you. Because without you, these cats would be lost.

Then again, you're talking to a mom who's sugar cat generally wakes me up around 4AM. She uses a confident jump on the bed to tell me she needs food. If that confident jump doesn't wake me up and I'm sleeping on my back, she remembers she was a urologist in another life and exuberantly jumps right on my bladder... That always works! If she still has food, but is looking for company, she's a ninja. I don't actually feel her presence until I feel her whiskers because she checks my breathing. She's not a lovey huggy cat. She's quirky. But, she knows I smile feeling her whiskers and she's good for 10 or 15 minutes of sleepy company. She just likes her buns rubbed and patted while she eats... Hey, no one likes to eat alone and there's no automatic feeder I've found that will also rub and pat a cat's buns...

Please know we're keeping you and Gumpy in our hopeful, healing, hearts, thoughts, and prayers, dearest Bell.

Much love and countless, hopeful, healing, hungry, and encouraging hugs for you all,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, who taught me to be a good mom...

Sweetest Deb & Nikki,
Must have been very tired last nite, cuz things seem better this am.... Bean is back to a 96, playing with her toy, running around in the garage, getting to go outside for her 10 min of fun, eating her breakfast and NOT sneaking into the others food..... and did I say 96!!!!! That is after I gave her approx. 4 carb treats yesterday at the 34 reading!!! GOOOOO BEANNNNN!

Slappy got right up on her counter and ate faster this am than ever, kept it down and is now being Sleepy Slappy! Hurray for helping mommy this am!

Gumpy is still acting strange, but maybe that is the way she will always be, just dont know! She did eat some dry this am... and then mommy took it up so Sneaky Sneak would stay out of it... I also put some 100% tuna flakes (Beans pokey poke treat) on her wet to see if that would help her eat more than a fork full at a time... It seemed to work better, she still did not eat all of it, but she did do better...so maybe mommy can walk away for a min and not spend 45 min in the kitchen while they eat.. I will ask her new vet tomorrow if that will really hurt her or not, figure it is better than her not liking it at all and it taking her very long to get it down her! pooor girl~ she has to be able to enjoy something in her little 'heart girl' life!

I really wish I could use the time feeders for the girls, but they would not stay out of each others food and hate to be confined to different rooms! So, mommy just needs sleep, pack patients, eat, enjoy their fuzzy little heads for what it is...

Bean starts waking me up very early in the am on the week ends....then to the garage door she runs, then to the outside door for her outside time.... Have to pick her up and take her to her food....she is very very hard headed until she gets those minutes outside!! but it sure seems to destress her alot!

I love the wake up on the weekends, gives me time to snuggle a bit with Bean, sometimes Gumpy but Slappy is usually sitting in her eating spot as mommy comes around the corner! LOVE THEM ALL!

I hope for your sake Deb that Nikki will not have another gagging hairball and her numbers stay where they are suppost to be! Perhaps I will make myself a p&j sandwich and enjoy for breakfast/lunch!
