Just wanted to get some advice on Beans dental that I have scheduled for Thursday.

We will have to pull up food no later than 1030. That is only +6 into her pm shot. Was considering 1/2 dose and of course no insulin Thursday am.

What about Friday am? Should I be concerned w/ giving her the normal amount if she eats or will the meds they use make a difference how the insulin works?

Also, what should we stay away from as far as meds for the surgery? Should I just ask for gas due to her being 12?

Just had a very bad experience with Civvie Gizzi and no reversal of the meds and come to find out, some was not that great that they used. - Ketamine

.80 Butorphanol 10mg/mL
.80 Dexmedetomidine HCl 0.5gm/mL
.64 Ketamine 100mg/10mL

The vet said she is responding to the dexmedetomidine.

Thanks!

There have been many posts on dentals - you might search over in Lantus.
One thing they can do is regional nerve blocks once the cat is sedated which may reduce the anount of sedation needed.
Another thing - no Convenia shot (antibiotic). It she reacts to it badly, the effects last up to 2 weeks.
Can you move the shot time earlier over the next few days? That would mean less time without food while on insulin the night before.
Some vets have you give a half dose the morning of the dental if the cat tests high enough.

BJM,
Thanks. She has had the shot before...several times and does fine
Do you know what the best meds are for this?
I will post after speaking with them and perhaps get a better knowledge of it.
I really cant move up any more in the a.m. I get up at 4 as is.... makes it really hard to stay up for any + #'s needed and dont get home until 330 pm after work.
If i shoot at 4, then take up food at 10, that is only +5 and makes me nervous if she needs it at +7
We are getting a few times in low 100! not many, but enough to make me think twice

Then reducing the dose is likely the way to go, with a check in the morning to see if a little insulin is needed.
