Basaglar switch from Lantus?

Hello All-

I called Marks Marine Pharmacy (CanShipMeds) to reorder Lantus for my cat. They told me the Lantus pens are in tight supply and it would probably be 6-8 weeks before they could be delivered. They suggested switching to the Basaglar pens which they said contain the same molecular structure.

Has anyone switched their regulated cat to this insulin? Did you have to make any dose adjustments or was it smooth sailing?

ha, my order of Basaglar pens is due to arrive tomorrow from Marks. And so I posted a very very similar thread recently. My boy has been doing so well I was super nervous to use anything but Lantus.

But, to answer your question: YES, many have switched with no issue between Lantus, Basaglar and other biosimilars. A member here did so deliberately a few years ago to see if their cat would react any differently -- not a blip.

I had a long conversation with a vet at Marks and he assured me that it is identical at the molecular level to Lantus and in fact in Canada if someone is prescribed Lantus it gets filled as Basaglar by default. So we are going to take the plunge.

Here is my recent thread:
