Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while because of my hectic life, but I wanted to give a quick update about my kitties. Bandit started his OTJ trial last night. Since his food was reduced from 9oz a day to 7.5, he's been giving me some great numbers, and he's been on microdoses for so long I figured it was time to give it a shot (no pun intended).

In much sadder news, my beautiful kitty Gabby was diagnosed with an abdominal tumor on Monday. After a week of tests and much crying, i've decided we're not going through with any more treatment. My vet was not very optimistic about her outlook, and I don't want to put her through any more testing or operations if all it's going to do is make the end of her life miserable. My vet is estimating that she has less than 3 months left, but there is a small possibility she could live with the tumor for a while. She seems happy now, except she's drinking a whole lot, but she's still purring and playing and cuddling. I started feeding her in small amounts 6 times a day instead of four, and that seems to have perked her up and brough her appetite back a bit. I just don't understand how this could happen so quickly, since she was perfectly healthy at her last vet visit in March. She was my first cat and she's been my companion for 16 years. I am going to have a huge hole in my heart when she leaves me.

Is it ever nice to see you posting Julia.

Taking the trial plunge eh? Tons of good luck vibes for Bandit.

((((I'm so sorry))) about your other kitty Gabby.
She is beautiful! Cherish each day you have with her. :YMHUG:

I hope we will see you often with Bandit's updates.

good luck with the trial, what a surprise!

I'm sorry about Gabby. It's scary how things can change so fast. As long as she is running around and playing, then she is obviously feeling fine. I hope she stays that way.

For Bandit, multiple small meals are best for his pancreas. If you get a number that is higher than you like, feed a little and test again in 3-4 hours to see if his pancreas brought him down. These numbers are a little higher than we usually start trials on, so be vigilant and don't be afraid to give insulin again if he needs it. You can always post here for advice if you're not sure. And keep him out of the banana bread!

Because of Gabby has to eat smaller meals now, I started doing the same with Bandit because it's an ordeal to try and feed one and not the the other. So it's really good to know that it's going to help him out, too. We just got our first number below 100 since last night, so I think he's doing good.

As for the banana bread....I should have known better than to think a ziploc bag would keep him out of it. And then I should have known doubly better that sealed tupperware can be opened if a cat works on it all night long. So now all bread-like food, no matter how unlikely it seems a cat would eat it, is only kept on top of the fridge. I just want to know why on earth he would want to eat matzos. I don't even want to eat matzos.

Wishing you well Julia....good luck to Bandit and for your sweet little Gabby...we wish her happy days for as long as possible...I know this is a very hard time for you all, but we are here for any emotional support you might need. Each day is precious with our furbabies....give her a big kiss from the 3 of us... :YMHUG:

Thank you all, I want everyone to know how much I appreciate your help with Bandit back when I had no idea what to do.

I still might need more help, especially if he starts going too high. I have no idea when i should get nervous and put him back on insulin again if he throws some higher numbers.

Hi Julie! Congrates on starting a trial. Bandit's numbers don't look bad, like Libby said keep checking and see if he can go from blue to green after a few hours on his own (tells you his pancreas is working). The small meals could make a difference too. If he remains higher and you have to shoot insulin again for a few days/weeks it's no big thing. Lots of cats don't pass the test on the first try and a few extra days of insulin put them on the right path to a successful trail.

Sorry to hear about Gabby  I hope she has some more time with you and remains as pain-free as possible until her time.
