Hey all, Becky and Baloo back with some updates! The big news, we survived our first hypo last night/this morning. Through a fortunate series of events my mom was able to notice Baloo roaming about looking very disoriented/like he couldn't see, which I then heard (even though I was half asleep) and thanks to you all was able to recognize as a hypo. We pulled out all the carb-filled things we could think of and pulled his blood sugar up from "Lo" to 70 before calling it a morning (approximately two hours before his usual insulin time). Needless to say he did not get his shot this morning (or this evening)! We did keep his feeding time the same, and we'll be taking some blood readings tomorrow so that we can get his insulin adjusted accordingly. I had an all-day class today so was unable to observe him myself, but mom reported no issues.

Once again, thank you so much for all the information you all have supplied on this website! Without a doubt Baloo would no longer be with us if it wasn't for you guys!

That is very scary. The vet increased him to 6 units based on numbers while boarded, right? If he were mine, I would learn how to home test today, get some preshot and midcycle numbers so you can tell how the insulin is really working, away from the stress of the vet.

Do you have the supplies? Can we teach you how?

We'll hope you don't need it again, but here are written instructions on How to Handle A Hypo that may be helpful to print out and post someplace handy.

Glad everything worked out.
