ive been out for 3 hours and had a bg reading of 487 before I left which im sure was a bounce but hed also been fed about half an hour before that.i came home and got a bg reading of 23.4(yes in US figures)i panicked threw some high carb food down which he quickly ate altho I tested literally a min after hed eaten 2 pieces and his bg was 424 . he wouldn't go straight up like that surely with 2 mouthfuls of food If it was a genuinely low reading like that would it???I felt abit silly as when id calmed down and could think properly im guessing it was a dodgy strip.im gonna keep a close eye over night me thinks! im paranoid!

just edited to add.his behaviour was fine when I got home.waiting in the window for me,meowing for his dinner when I walked through the door.far from hypo symptoms.
heck all this is enough to test the patience of a saint ;-)

Hope Bailey can clear that bounce and get back to business. I'm glad he is acting better. I'm sure he appreciates all you do for him cat_pet_icon

It was probably a bad strip or a bad test. It's good you re-tested.

(Please remember to open only one thread/"condo" for Bailey each day.)

oh sorry I forgot.im still learning.
I felt abit silly after cos ive given a few mouthfuls of high carb food which has no doubt increased his bounce.such a good few days I suppose we were due a bad one ;-)

Don't feel bad Anna...We all pretty much freak out the first time we see numbers under 50, and for you to see a 23 had to be terrifying!

For future reference, any time you get a test that really makes no sense at all, retest. The numbers will hardly ever be exactly the same, but you'll have a much better idea if it's a faulty strip or sample, or there's something really wrong you need to pay attention to. That goes for way high numbers as well as low ones. If it's "out of place", retest.

Hope Bailey is doing much better now!

Sorry to see Bailey bouncing today, Anna. It's frustrating, I know. (Jersey's a bouncy cat, too.) I would have panicked, too, if I would have seen a 23. It's great that you re-tested.

Hope Bailey breaks the bounce soon!

i think everyone's done that at least once! i know the first few times punkin got low numbers i did things like give him an entire can of high carb food. we learn!

for the future, it typically takes somewhere between 15-30 minutes for the carbs to start showing up on the test strip, so if you test within a minute or two and have higher numbers, it's not from the food at that point.

hope you've had a lovely evening! in the US we're celebrating St. Patrick's Day - which mostly means drinking Irish beer and eating corned beef and cabbage, and of course, wearing green so no one pinches you!
