Have given Bailey his PM insulin 3 hours late (15 hours after his AM shot) have got myself so stressed that I have had a mental block as to how to work his shot times back ,is it one hour a day,or half a hour a day you have to adjust to get him back to his regular timing? Would very much appreciate you reminding me!!! Thanks Diane

There are two general options:
  • change the time by 15 min. at each shot time or
  • change the time by 30 min. once a day

Looking at Bailey's SS, if I may, I'd like to make a couple of observations. You haven't been getting any PM tests since July 6. Especially since you raised Bailey's dose, I'd strongly encourage you to get those tests in.

You seem to consistently test at +6 during the AM cycle and +2 during the PM cycle. It will help you (and us) to have a clearer sense of Bailey's numbers if you can get tests ad various times to help fill in those white spaces on Bailey's SS. Many cats do not have their nadir at +6. You may have a false sense of security by testing only at +6. If you can get a test before you leave, when you get home, if you wake up during the night to use the bathroom, etc. -- whatever reason there may be to help understand where Bailey's numbers typically are, will give you a much richer picture.

Bailey's numbers have been pretty good. I don't know if I'd have been inclined to raise his dose from a fat 3.0 to a skinny 3.5u. You might have wanted to try increasing by 0.25u first since you've routinely been seeing numbers that are under 200. Given the larger than usual increase, please get some additional tests so you aren't surprised.

Thanks Sienne, I very much appreciate your helpful observations, and take them on board.Bailey has been doing well, the reason I upped his dose was for the last few days his nadir has been higher than usual, then yesterday AMPS he had his first pink in 5 months. I have just entered his numbers for today on his ss,if you have time to take another look do you think I should drop him back to 3.25? Thanks once again. Diane

Since you've already got 4 cycles in at the current dose, I'd probably just stick with it unless you get a test under 50

I agree with Sienne on the testing too...It looks like he may have gone lower on the PM cycle on July 10th and then bounced into the pink the next morning. That's why it's so very important to get those tests in at night

It's really the only way to know what's going on with our kitties!

Also, generally we don't do those "skinny" or "fat" doses until we're pretty sure that their "best dose" is somewhere in between. (like you go too low at 3.5, but you're too high at 3.25..then you might want to try a skinny or fat dose) It's better to just stick with the .25 unit increases/decrease until you're really close to "dialing in" that dose.
