I noticed last night before going to bed that my cat was going to the litter box often but barely peeing. I got up this morning to check on him and he had peed quite a bit in the litter box but also peed tiny amounts around the house and I noticed when I was cleaning it up that it was pinkish. I emptied out a box to get a urine sample to take to the vet and he immediately peed in it - it looked like a puddle of pure blood. The vet said that he had no crystals - just a bad infection. He is on Baytril now.
I only remember him having an infection this bad before his diabetes was regulated and his sugar was still high 20's. I recently changed him to Fancy Feast ( a couple weeks ago) and I'm wondering if that could cause a infection? What else could be causing such a bad infection? Even though he has been OTJ for a few months now his fur still doesn't look healthy and he still drinks quite a bit and pees quite large clumps about 2 or 3 times a day so I've been worried about possible kidney failure. Are UTI's a sign of kidney failure?
