Baco on ProZinc part 3

hello, I've got a question.. Baco is at +8 right now and I find her # high for a +8, because She only ate raw food and her dose is 0.35.

+2 - 272
+4 - 232
+6 - 243
+8 - 293

So i was happy with the drop at +4 but she's going up already. Do you know why this is happening? And does someone know what I should do? Maybe her dose is to high? or to low? I really can't see a pattern in her #.

Good Morning or Good afternoon for you Ruby! Looks like Baco had her nadir early this cycle at around+4. The thing with the nadir is that the kitty can change her nadir at any time. (it's in their manuals, LOL) Since you just started the all raw diet last night it could be her body is trying recalibrate the food to insulin ratio. She has stayed in mostly higher 200's since last night. Sometimes higher flat cycles are an indication of too much insulin. But I am not really sure what is going on and would like either @Sue and Oliver (GA) ,@Rachel , or @Robin&BB or @Elizabeth and Bertie to look and see what they think.

yes it's afternoon here, goodmorning to you! Mostly her nadir is around +4, that's the only pattern I can get out of her #.
I will wait on the other people there response, thank you. I would (if i need to) change something asap if that is what will get her # lower and stable. These cycles are making me crazy :woot:
 
Normally, just looking at her cycle, it would seem she needs a little more insulin. The midcycle numbers aren't awful, but yes, we hope for blues and greens. The only caveat would be if the raw food caused a bump downward in her numbers at the same time you are increasing the dose. So, if you decide on an increase, have it be on a cycle you can monitor. Her lower numbers on 0.5 were several cycles ago and this dance is fluid, so 0.5 could work. Just be ready to bring her up midcycle if needed (you know how to steer the numbers with food). Or, if you'd rather, try a fat 0.35. Pull up 0.5 and let out a few drops till it looks like a tiny bit more than 0.35. That method is not very accurate but might give you a feeling about whether she needs 0.5 in the next cycle or so.

(Was right in the middle of AMPS/ feed/ shoot on Bat when Bobbie's tag showed up ...sorry!) I totally agree with Sue's assessment here. And now that you have her swicthed over to an all-raw diet, if she were mine I would probably bump her up even a little more when I can be home to monitor (like over the weekend) - returning to the 0.50. (And I would be inclined to do a little curve then, too, so that I can get a really good idea of how she's "working" the insulin through the cycle at that dose now that her diet is 100% raw.)
 
In fact, I would strongly recommend you run a curve or two over her cycles this weekend when you're home with her. (And a switch to the U100 syringes, using the conversion table, as soon as you're able to get those will - as Sue said - help you be very accurate in in making small dose adjustments.)

Taking the time to run a couple of curves over the weekend will give you some really good data - and most importantly, will give you the info you need to help you keep her safe during the work week.;) (And that will help you to not be worrying when you're not there, too!:))
 
okay, so from what I understand I have to give her 0.50 when I can monitor her, (well that will be this coming 3 days, friday, saturday and sunday) make some curves and then we'll talk sunday about her # and what to do from monday on? (workweek for me)
@Robin&BB I will have the syringes tommorrow morning, but that will be after her AM shot, so I can only use it tomorrow at her PM shot.
maybe, because 0.50 has let us believe it was to much, it's better when I have the U100 syringes I give her a dose of 0.40 maybe? what do you think?

@Sue and Oliver (GA) : well I'm trying that right now with the 0.35 but like you said it's not accurate, so I can't wait untill tomorrow to get the U100 syringes. They will be a great help!
 
i'm getting the vibe from Baco's # that 0.35 is a little too less, and 0.50 is a little too much.. so my gut is telling me she needs 0.40 (with the U100 syringes)
I'm still learning everyday from you guys, but I can sense a little bit better now with dosis and testing and feeding... I'm getting better at it all with each day :p

With the U100 syringes, you would draw to the 1.o unit mark on that type of syringe to give her 0.40U of the Prozinc. (So yes, that would accurately provide her with less than 0.5U.)
 
right? I'm thinking the same thing. and the 0.40 makes it better for me on the U100 syringes because like you said, you pull up to 1.0 unit mark. so it's 100% (well 99%) accurate
 
Hi Ruby, I just popped into this forum to check on someone else's kitty and noticed the "GA" in your title. I have to admit my heart nearly stopped because that prefix is meant for cats that have gone ahead to Rainbow Bridge. Can you edit the title and take the GA off so others do not think we've lost one of our furry buddies!? Thanks so much! :)

SAME..Saw the GA and my heart dropped into my stomach. There have been far too many GA's in recent weeks :(
 
Omg didn't know that! Thought it stands for something like general ... Because I do know that if you have a question you put the ? In your title... But now i've changed all my threads!
 
Thank you Ruby! I was just so relieved when I read through this condo to know Baco was ok! :DYou are not the first person to think that prefix meant something different and you won't be the last. :)
