Well... had to start insulin sooner than I'd wanted as we creeped into the 300's!!

Please check out his SS and let me know what you think about dosage. I'm doing .25u for now as I haven't been able to get a +6 test to see how low he's going on that. The +4 makes me think this might be a good dose though. Open to suggestions. I'll try to get another curve this weekend to help figure out a dosage. His curve last weekend (while still OTJ) was weird. Steady all day then jumped up at night. Even the "steady" was on the high side though.

The vet jinxed it. He said he wouldn't worry about it unless he starts going over 200 regularly. :(

Sorry that he is back on insulin, I think he is looking okay, Jenn. The first cycle on .25 wasn't great but the next two have looked better. I'd give him a little while to settle into the dose. Today's amps looks nice. You can always do a fat or skinny dose if that looks like a good idea. A fat dose is pulling up more than you need and then letting out drops until it is just a little more than the .25 A skinny is the same idea - pull up .25 and then let out a few drops.

If you want help with dosing or want to see what other spreadsheets look like, you can post on the PZI forum.

.25 is so hard to draw up! LOL I hate having to "eyeball" it. Especially in the morning... before coffee... @-)

I really wish they'd make better syringes for diabetic cats that need tiny doses.

Oh that's right! I forgot about that! Thank you! I'll see if I still have any u100's around. I know I did at one point. They're also a lot easier to come by, as the pharmacies around here had no idea what I was talking about when I tried to get u40 syringes.

Usually only vets sell U40 syringes. Most people here use 3/10 ml, 30-31 gauge, 5/16 (if you like the shorter ones) and definitely get the ones with 1/2 unit markings.

Thanks Sandy, just ordered them! Looked locally at Walmart and RiteAid but didn't like what they had. RiteAid had ones with 1/2u markings... but it was VERY hard to see due to poor print quality. Hoping these are better. They're about 1/3 the price that they wanted at the local stores!

On the other hand, it's gonna take a few days to get them... so I'm stuck eyeballing it for now. Of course, now that THESE are on the way... based on my prior encounters with "Murphy's Law" - he SHOULD go into remission so I dont need them after all. ;)

A little note to all who have cats OTJ... and trying to get OTJ..

I have noticed since I put my sugar kitty on methyl B 12 this certain one see link below, (shes been PZI insulin dependent for 11 yrs) her pancreas seemed to be trying to work better, she needed less insulin due to a few rebounds while on the Methyl B12 I feel the methyl B 12 helping her pancreas out.. I gave her a spray by advantage I got off iherb.com or vitacost.com the one I was using before was a non name brand didn't work at all..this one is amazing, her weak back legs are almost gone and this one has no sugar at all, and has helped lower her BG numbers.. maybe try that as long as you are testing, be aware thou the unit of insulin I had to give were less while shes on 1500-3000 mg of methyl B12 hope this helps someone
