Back from Vacation...Max's SS after a week of no shots

Okay, we are finally home and Max is safe and sound and hanging out in the 200s after a week without any insulin. Max was in the care of my parents while we were at the beach. THE FIRST MORNING after we dropped him off, his bgl dropped in the 80s and scared the living daylights out of me (not my parents...they were oblivious to what was going on since he seemed fine to them). A couple of days before that, I had increased his dose from .3u to .4u to try to get his numbers lower, as they were starting to steadily rise. After the 85 number, I told them no more insulin as long as he stays in the 200s. The numbers that they recorded are listed in the SS. So where do I need to go from here? My thoughts are to start at .2u and stay there for a while, regardless of the numbers just to see what happens. UGH! This had to happen while I was not around to monitor him myself! ohmygod_smile

Agreed...so is it a good thing that he is staying in the 200s or not really. I would have thought that he would be much higher by now with no insulin...btw, I just tested and he was 246 at what would normally be amps +9.5

Cats in remission, off insulin, range from 40 to 120, with the majority of time in double digits.

The 200 range with no insulin is good, but if you can get him consistently in lower numbers, that's the path to OTJ.

Just wondering how you were doing, so checked the spreadsheet. Are you thinking you can try some small doses? He is still running in the higher ranges of 200, a little higher than the renal threshold. When you can be around and can get a nadir, I would consider a drop of insulin.

Hi Sue. I dropped the insulin to .2u on Monday night. His numbers have risen slightly back to the higher 200s again, with a 314 this morning. Maybe this is a small bounce as a result of starting insulin again after a week without? The only other thing that I could attribute it to is that he is eating Friskie's pates at my house whereas he was fed Fancy Feast at my parent's house.

At any rate, I'm thinking that I should stay at .2u until I can see what it is really doing for him (if anything). I haven't posted in a couple of days b/c I have been sick with a sinus infection and my 3 year-old daughter has a stomach bug. Thanks for checking in on us. I will update the SS post more numbers when I get a chance.
