Back from vacation and back in the pinks

Mitz is really happy we are back home! She would not let the sitter test her so she went the whole week without insulin. Because she was on such a low dose before we left (0.2), we told the sitter not to give any insulin unless she could test first. I was really, really hoping she was actually ready for remission but apparently not yet. I tested her last night when we got home...391 . Pretty discouraging! Hoping we can get her numbers under control pretty quickly. Other than losing some weight (she didn't eat as well while we were away), Mitz seems to be doing pretty good. If I can catch her in the litter box, I'll check for ketones today too.

Glad she survived! I think you will just have to slowly make your way back. Looks like your dsoe today is good. If you can get some numbers, it'll give you an idea of how she is going to respond.

It was a good trip, thanks! So far today, she's staying in the pinks: +3 was 300, +5 was 306. Can I increase a little with the PM shot or should I hold the 1 unit for a couple of cycles?

I am always a little cautious. I think I would give her at least two cycles on one unit. She was on such a tiny dose before that she might suddenly start to react.

Have you ever looked into DCIN? They have any number of folks across the USA you will go in and take care of you diabetic catch when gone. I don't know what the criteria for this happening is...but it might help you for further travels. I'm training a friend to help me in that way. That might another avenue for you to explore. Thanks for the info Jane. One of our vets actually gave me the name of a former vet tech who does pet-sitting but we got the information too late to book her for this trip.

@Sue and Oliver (GA) , Mitz was 106 when I checked her first thing this morning! We're working our way back to a normal schedule so this was about 2 hours before her AM shot. DH gave the shot after I left for work but he can't test so we reduced her dose to 0.8. He'll be home all day to keep an eye on her and make sure she eats.
