hey all been a while Vengeance has been in remission since back in Dec and I havent kept up with the spreadsheet being his #s were all good BG staying in the 70s and 80s blood keytones usually .01 with a precision Xtra... I have gotten to where I only check his BG once or twice a week being its always in perfect #s (70-80s) and keytones once every week or 2... Today got up and he had thrown up the food ( fancy feast Chicken and Beef pate which is not a normal flavor I give him I accidentally pick it up now and then being its same color as the chicken he usually tolerates it) usually stick to FF chicken, turkey giblets,or Friskies Chicken and Liver pate and Turkey and Giblets pate or chicken with greens pate... and thrown up water and now just saw him throw up foam.... his BG checked 121 at noon ( didnt feed being he had been throwing up and wanted to retest) so I retested both BG and Keytone at 2:30 and his BG was 122 and the keytone had moved up to .02 ( wondering if higher due to the throwing up... he was 100% fine last night went went to bed ate like a machine at his 12am feeding I feed him 1/2 a can every 6hrs 12pm,6pm,12am,6am wasnt until I got up and saw he had thrown up sometime between 6am and noonish...he was waiting for his food at the cat gate when I fed him at 6am so he was still fine then... wondering if could have been a bad can of food?? HOPEFULLY thats caused this.. his brother who has no issues ate same food no problem but venge does have a more sensitive stomach etc... soo wondering should I Rush him to the vet ( if they will even see me) or wait it out till tomorrow and see how hes doing and keep checking blood every hour or 2 and see if BG goes back down... would appreciate all the help being all that he went thru last year and almost loosing him dont want to wait to long IF I need to take him in or hopefully its just due to body not agreeing with the can of food and the throwing up due to that...
@JanetNJ @Critter Mom

thanks so much sorry havent been around but hes been a normal cat for a while he gained back up to 15 lbs (since he had lost down to 11.1 in Nov) with the Diabetes again eating 2 cans a day which is what seems to be what they say is a correct amount

Sorry for using the 911 just worried about what to do with trying to get him into the vet and not have to take him in the middle of the night or something...

0.02 on a ketone blood meter is nothing... Don't worry about it. Bg at 122 is not actually high but I understand is higher than his normal. Not a number I would worry about. The puking I don't know why... Could be a sensitivity to the food... Or a stomach bug... Or a hairball. Whatever the discomfort is, I am sure that's what has boosted his bg up. Unless the vomiting doesn't stop or he stops eating I would just let his tummy settle down and keep an eye on him.

Thanks for the quick reply and you know me worrysome catdad sorry for the LTNP but had hoped that all of this was behind us being that his issues seemed to be steroid induced... last night he was crawling on top of my computer and etc and day before yesterday his BG was 88 and keytone was .01 which is his normal.. he seems a little Blah right now but understandable being hes thrown up a few times...

UGHHH decided to test again as I post this I ran to store bought a new batch of testing strips the others were only a few weeks old but had issues with some not reading at all(relion changed there strips) and checked twice first was 142 and 2nd was 144 so its going up????..... UGHHHHH should I worry being its went up another 20 points in a hour and half or so... it hasnt moved like this since when he was first diagnosed and on insulin he is a little out of it like I said ... I have no insulin at home except whats left in the bottle from when he was sent home from Hospital on Nov 24th which its been in fridge since then.....

he has not eaten since this morning around 6 I didnt feed him lunch being the throwing up..

Can you call your vet for an over-the-phone opinion since you have test numbers?
its an odd situation with me and my vet being they sent him home after being in hospital for a week with keto and a new diagnosis of Diabeties and Asthma after an steroid shot for the asthma kicked him into keto and him almost dying... and then they never checked up on him being I was supposed to bring him back in 30 days after he was sent home with insulin etc... and Ive never heard from them since... I was lucky that the members on here helped me get him into remission very very quickly and thats hes been back to normal gained back weight etc since first of DEC last year... so no idea what they will say ... they told me to do NO home testing but I had already joined here while he was in hospital so knew better that to rely on that.... and if not for that the dose they had him on had him near crash 3 days after I brought him home.. but the awesome people here helped me get the right dose to work him off into remission in like 9 days....

ok soo just tested again and one pack of strips 141 the other 145 yeah I know about strips being off here and there... but its not going up seems to have leveled off after 2 hrs the vet closes at 5:30 ... so trying to make up mind on a mad dash up there and have them check him out just encase....and his Ketone are .1 normally and was .2 earlier just checked again and back to .1 so all is good there... I think I am just going to let him rest .. he kinda feels warm so might risk loosing a limb and try taking his temp lol

ok I risked it and found a 2 sec digital thermometer that works for rectal lol best I could get dont know how deep your suppose to go lol I got 100.1 which is normal..... he was not too happy about it but I got it done he did get off the bed walk to kitchen walk around now is back in my bedroom laying on the floor... I think I am gonna hold off on another BG till about 7pm est so not to stress him out more... I got some chicken breast meat I will give him later on tonight if he doesnt throw up anymore bile I guess about 9 and see if he will eat it and see how he does...

The BG is still not too high. Stress can raise glucose levels and if he does not feel well that could be contributing to it. He may also be picking up on your stress.

Hopefully he will feel better soon and eat.

Try to get him to eat and just let him be overnight. It's really just barely over normal and if he's not feeling well or stressed that's why.

He's not constipated is he?

checked twice first was 142 and 2nd was 144 so its going up???
Well within meter variance. Try not to worry. You also have a long ways to go on the ketone meters before it's worrying. Test his BG again tomorrow before breakfast, and again a few hours later to see if he's coming down.

I'm taking down the 911 for now.

Update sorry was so stressed and scared with him yesterday.. the big issue was that his numbers for the past 10 months had not been over a 92 that I got once so I got scared... last night I rechecked him at around 7:45 and it had dropped from the 145 earlier to 94... I then gave him some chicken broth and checked him about 10:30 had dropped to 84 I checked him again at 12am and was down to 74 and I fed him 1/4 of a can of FF turkey at 6am and then when I checked him at noon today he was at 63..... sorry for the 911 but I was scared being he was acting way off ... I am guess the can of food was bad thou he ate it... and the throwing up made his numbers shoot up out of his normal under 90 usually when I check him its 70s to 80s occasionally 60s but had not seen 3 digit numbers since he was on insulin so it scared me... thanks for the help and understanding

that was a variance between 2 different batches of strips I had gotten another tube of trips just to make sure not bad strips ..the going up part was due to hour earlier it was 122 so it jumped up..
Glad his numbers are back down. :)
Thanks if had not been for you and @crittermom back last year I have no idea what would have happened to him.. and yesterday just really really scared me being I constantly worry about the remission going away...

Test strips can vary by 20% from test to test. 122 to 142 is less than 20% so essentially the same number. Regardless, good to hear he's back to green numbers again.

Update no more jumps in his BS staying in the 70s or low 80s... so my best guess is something with that can of food and it making him throw up a few times shot his # up.... thanks to all for the help and concern as always ..
