I had a diabetic cat years ago and found a wealth of information and support on this board. Chauncy died many years ago and my current boys, Sam and Bamboo, are fine. However, my boyfriends cat Nicki was just diagnosed borderline diabetic. His glucose was 173, which doesn't seem all that high to me, but definitely too high. Its combined with excessive water intake, weight loss, etc. Anyway, we are going to try and control with diet and see how far we get. I'd like to monitor him myself. My old meter died years ago, so I'm in the market for a new one. I bought the Wallgreens TrueTrak. Does anyone have any experience with that? That consumer reports comparison has a note that it is not recommended. Has anyone found that it is unreliable?

In the meantime, I'm refreshing my memory of dealing with a diabetic kitty and learning new stuff that has been discovered.

So hello to all of you.

Kathy and Chanucy - and now Nicki

Hi Kathy,

What is Nicki eating at the moment? If he has a large proportion of dry food in his diet then a switch to low carb wet may make all the difference....
