Katie went into remission exactly 3 years ago. I have tested her urine daily in the last 3 years. Never showed even a trace of sugar. I started making her food 3 years and I thought I had basically cured her. She has fatty blood (hyperlipemia) and have been making her a low fat diet, we all thought that was the underlying reason for her diabetes. . Tonight, it was sky high (brown on the stick), out of the blue. Yesterday and everyday for 3 years it has been normal (or at least not high enough it spilled into her urine). Testing her blood is out of the question, I was never able to do it. She is way too fractious. I admire the people that can do with an unruly kitty, but Katie, it's just impossible for me.
She was full blown diabetic and on Lantus for 1 .5 years. She was so sick in that time, honestly, you guys, I dont know if i can do this again. It scares me to not be able to test her, and to blindly give her insulin again. I dont know what happened to go from no sugar in her urine to off the charts. There has no new stress or anything that happened. I was totally blindsided by this. My heart is breaking. Of course it's Saturday night, and I cant even call the vet until Monday morning.
I am hoping it is an infection of some sort and if we take care of it, her sugar will go back down...... She is acting fine so far. I dont know what is going on. I always heard its nearly impossible to achieve a second remission.
Not really expecting any advice, just a shoulder to cry on. Thanks all.
