Nicole & Baby

Very Active Member
Hi, I noticed a browinsh/rust/orange color around Baby's bottom hole & thought it was odd because she is a very clean cat.. I noticed it last night. I tried to take a warm wash cloth & clean it up; but it is now looking like something more. She is acting 100% fine, eating/litterbox is normal. There is no odor either. She is not licking or acting like this is present. I have a Vet appointment for tomorrow morning. Please let me know if you have seen this before & what you think. She had an abcscess anal sac about 2 months ago & was on an antibiotic - but with that she definitely licked it, was bothered by it.

Re: Help Please: Baby's Bottom

Hi Nicole,

no advice I'm afraid but think your doing the right thing by taking baby (sorry about the $ part)

Might be the beginning of something and because your super observant you've caught it early.

Hope all goes well-lots of snowflakes to Baby from across the sea :-D

ps-let us know how it goes

Re: Help Please: Baby's Bottom

I don't know either. Did you change foods? Maybe a change in food(color) would cause this. I am guessing...I would be wooried too.

Re: Help Please: Baby's Bottom

(((Nicole))) - is there any redness around her butt or is it that the hair appear to be discolored?

Re: Help Please: Baby's Bottom

thanks, everyone...i am worried...it is hard to say if its redness or stained..i just keep thinkin if it was something she would be licking it like kitties do..she is cool as a cucumber acting...no food changes & her movements are normal

Re: Help Please: Baby's Bottom

I don't know what that is Nicole. Is it in the same place she had the abcess last time.
Marvie had a spot on Tugger's bum a while ago. We got to see those pictures too.
Good to have it checked out at the vet though.
Does Sadie's bum look okay? Anything wierd wit that Tidy breeze litter thing?
I hope its nothing. Of course you will let us know after the visit.

Re: Help Please: Baby's Bottom

Sadi, Baby & I appreciate the well wishes. Anal sac issues, amoxycillin (liquid form) given. We are on the right road to recovery.

Re: **Vet Update: Baby's Bottom

wow! looking at the picture i never would have thought it was another anal sac issue. glad you got her in. my late Spazzie had an anal gland abscess that ruptured so i'm aware of that kind of stuff but didn't know they could do this too.

Re: **Vet Update: Baby's Bottom

good catch and good thing you found it early enough before it ruptured and became really painful.

now that she is prone to this, seems many FD kitties have this problem, you can keep watch and will know how to treat going forward.

Re: **Vet Update: Baby's Bottom

Thanks, Hillary! It is CrAzY... 9 years old & NEVER any anal sac issues.. now 2 within 3 months. The Vet showed me how to "empty" them & I do feel comfortable doing it.. my plan is in place to be proactive & try every month before it occurs. The only thing that has changed is she is 90% on a Raw Diet (canned when I am at work)
I refuse to give up the Raw Diet

Re: **Vet Update: Baby's Bottom

Baby's bottom hole is having the same issue - it is now 14 months later, this time she is licking it though & trying to clean herself up - we have a vet appointment today at 4pm.

Gustav got an infection just next to anus hole, and it was fistulas full of pus and became very very inflammated. First time we came in, the sedated him, and pressed out all the pus until fresh blood came, and then cleaned it with saline sodium water. But it came back and next time they did fistula surgery on him and again cleaned it out. But it came back and I pressed out the pus at home when needed, very painful for him but necessary. This kept on for a while until I gave him Flagyl antibiotics, and voila the inflammation, pus and swollenness went away and haven't come back (knock on wood).

I have pics on it if you want to see.

found the pics will just take a while to upload them

Here is Gustav's buttocks and the sub skin infection. http://felinediseases.weebly.com/sub-sk ... ction.html

It was never concluded what it actually was due to, they however said it opened in the right direction when squeezed, outwards so to pus ran outwards. If it had run inwards it would have been more dangerous because then can infect all the internal things in them. But Gustav was lucky, and this was in 2006 and 2007, the pics are from june 12 2007, but after the Flagyl, voila it has been gone ever since (again knock on wood)

Nicole: sending healing vines to the beautiful Baby. I hope she gets better really soon. Those anal sac issues can really be a problem.
