Since his P-titius dx, although he is over it, Buddy is only eating Gerbers baby food -2 or 3 jars a day.
ingrediants:Ground chicken , (or ham ) water, and CORN STARCH. Concerned about the last one-is there fat in corn startch -is it harmful to his diabetes?would a diet a baby food only be bad? thanks very much.

A steady diet of baby food only does not have the correct
nutrients for a cat.

I would avoid the ham, and stick with chicken and turkey.

Also, Beechnut brand is better, if you can find it. You want to
avoid onions and garlic in the ingredients.

Corn starch is, of course, a carbohydrate. I don't think there's any fat in
cornstarch.

All cats, even p-titis cats, need some fat in their diets.

You might try mixing the baby food with a good cat food such as
Fancy Feast Chicken Feast Classic.

Start with a low percentage of the Fancy Feast, and work up to a higher
percentage over time.

You might also want to get a cat vitamin supplement, until you get Buddy back on a balanced diet. A good pet store should have some. Thiamine (B12) and taurine are especially important, but there are others needed in the right balance as well.

But not the stuff in the tubes, first ingredient there is often sugar!

The Gerbers is about 7% carb so it's fine in terms of the carb count. Beechnut has fewer carbs. (FWIW, neither of my cats will go near Beechnut.)

A steady diet of baby food is problematic since it is not a nutritionally complete diet for a cat. As other noted, it's missing things like taurine. I agree with Karen -- can you try gradually transitioning back to canned food?

Thanks very much--Buddy is getting b12 shots, so thats good. he usually eats rabbit raw by NV but he wont anymore.
how would i give him taurine?
I'll try mixing in FF. thanks!

You can get Taurine at a health foods / vitamins store.

Get the capsules that contain powdered Taurine.

Break open a capsule and sprinkle a bit on food...mix in.

I think it's pretty-much tasteless.

I don't know how much per day, though.

Why vitamin supplement do you use? We have the tube and thank goodness can't get him to eat it.

My boys won't go near beechnut either and eating is better than not eating.

Although I agree it is not the best nutrition my cat prior to the 2 I have now ate baby food from 18-20 years when she passed from a large mass (she had been in kidney failure at the time but with SQ fluids her numbers were good)

I pick and choose my battles with my boys...... trust your gut (no pun intended )
