BABY 9/13 - 7 cycles 6u still in pink - advice?

Hi - Baby has been getting 6u Lantus for 7 cycles now and her numbers are constantly in the pink...she actually had better (yellow) numbers at 5.5 and 5, but never any green yet. Do I go up or down? Up .5u? starting tomorrow? or tonight?? I am also in the process of trying to get a ketone test...I got one of my cat's yesterday and it was negative, but not sure which kitty went in! Will keep trying to make sure I see Baby. She was negative for ketones about 2 weeks ago.

Do not drop the dose. I would also keep testing for ketones. Ketones can develop in a matter of hours. A test 2 weeks ago is only good for that day (if that long).

I might also suggest that you consider getting baby tested for a high dose condition -- acromegaly and insulin autoantibodies (i.e., insulin resistance) Once a cat is past 6u, we typically make this suggestion. Your vet will need to get a blood draw and send the sample to the vet lab at Michigan State University. They are the only lab that does these tests. There is more information along with the link for testing on the high dose forum.

I would increase tonight. Six cycles at a dose that isn't even giving you yellows is long enough.

I also agree with Sienne's suggestion on getting those tests done for the "high dose" conditions. My Neko had both acromegaly and IAA or insulin auto antibodies. One in four diabetic cats has acromegaly, so it's fairly common. Not all have high doses, but when a kitty gets to six units, and is on a low carb wet o raw food diet, chances are there is something else going on. MSU is the only place that does the tests in North America, if that's where you live.

Yep, it's time to increase. You have been increasing systematically and on schedule. I hope that Baby is going to decide to like 6.5 and start coming down.
