Hi everyone

Seems I'm in a bit of trouble and I'm not sure what to do, Babu-Chiri has a lung and tonsils infection, he's having a bit of trouble breathing and has a bit of temperature the vet was here yesterday and gave him a shot of Baytril

Thing is his blood glucose numbers have been a bitt off he was 140 las night 2 hours after he ate and this morning 5 hours after he ate he was 145 and that is quite high for him ( he had not been over 100 since he went OYJ) so I'm not sure if I should start him on insulin or wait a bit what are your suggestions?

I would give the Baytril 48 hours to start working. The infection is causing the rise in BG numbers -- and as you know, the numbers aren't terrible. I'd be concerned that once the antibiotic kicks in, numbers will drop back down and if you're giving insulin, that could be a bit more "exciting" than necessary.

Ok thanks, yes I know this numbers could be caused by the infection but still it worried me since he's had other infections since he went OTJ and is the first time his numbers raise (there's always a first right) so I'll keep monitoring him and see how he does, at least he hasn't gone higher yet

A bit better he's able to breath better, but is still having a bit of trouble so we are not there yet, he still has a bit of temperature, vet gave him another shot of Baytril yesterday and prescribed some Baytril pills for him to keep taking for 4 more days, his blood glucose came down a little too he was 124 a while ago (3 hours after his last meal) which is an small improvement.

Thank you everyone for your support

Hi everyone

Just to let you know he's doing a bit better, fever finally broke and his BG is a bit lower, he was 109 a little while ago (improving but not in his normal numbers yet), he's still having trouble breathing and not eating very enthusiastically I'm still assist feeding him just to make sure he gets enough because right now his idea of a meal is just a few licks, he's normally not a very good eater so when anything upsets him getting food into him is always a problem, the vet added Lasix to his meds to see if that helps clear his lungs a bit and I've been giving him some sterimar (sea water spray) and rhinocort (budesonida) spray in his nostrils to help him with the congestion ( him being a Hymmie makes anything affecting his respiratory system a bit tricky).

Again thank you everyone
