Babee has pancreaititis & cancer, still in ER not eating.

I am so upset right now. Got the call this evening from the ER internal medicine vet who has been treating her for 2 days for pancreaititis. The mass he found is cancer, confirmed by biopsy. They can't do anything to treat it. She isn't eating. I went to see her tonight and she looked worst that went she went there. She did purr for me and took a 2 licks of food, but thats it.

I don't know what to do. I call my regular vet to get his thoughts and asked him if I should get a second opinion. He said no, if they have confirmed through xays ultrasound and other tests there is nothing we can do.

She is only 10 years old. She is the most loving cat, I have ever had. She was dumped by someone and I rescued her 8 years ago. I don't know what to do. I don't want her to suffer, but I don't want her last days or hours to be in an ER cage. I want to do whats best for her. I love her so much.

sorry for the rambling. I can't stop crying.............any advice or thoughts.........has anyone been through this. My other non sugar kitty is looking for Babee and sleeping in the places Babee slept. Should I bring her home one last time............or is it selfish

I am so sorry to hear this. It is so sad and I am sure, such a shock. If she were mine, I think I would ask the vet whether she is in pain and whether her pain can be managed. Could palliative care be done at home? Maybe after you have more information, you will know whether she can come home.

Regardless of the decisions you make for Babee, they will be the right ones because they will be made from love. You are her mom. She knows you love her.

I would also bring in a tshirt from home that smells like you to comfort her.

I was wondering where you were - had looked earlier and didn't see anything. So sorry you got such bad news! I know it's gotta be one of the worst things you can possibly hear. What did the ER Vet say about the pancreatitus? Is it treatable? Where is the tumor?

Are you comfortable doing whatever treatment they have her on? Sub Q fluids or anything else? If so, I'd be inclined to bring him home once they treat the p'titus and get her to a point where she can be released. Depending on the tumor - type, location, size, you may still have some time with her once they get the p'titus under control. I understand it's terribly painful, but I've seen others here get through it. Hopefully Babee can too!

I would definitely bring her home when you can. When the time comes to let go, and I hope that's a long while from now, maybe your vet can come to the house for you. Mine has, on several occasions, and it was something I really appreciated. It also gave my other furry kids a chance to say their goodbyes.

Thanks all.

The tumor is in the abdomen area or pancreas not sure right side I think. I was in such stock and so upset I didn't ask. She is not eating and I wouldn't want to put her through force feeding. I don't want her to be in any pain. I want to bring her home, but if that makes her feel worse then I don't. I am so confused and upset, I can think straight. My other cat is walking around looking for her....breaks my heart. She is confused with all my crying and Babee not being here.

Oh goodness, I am so very sorry to hear this. I wish I knew exactly what to say to comfort you. It's good to cry and express your pain.

Can you speak to the vet about the possible ways of managing her pain and making sure she's as comfortable as possible? Maybe ask a friend to come over to your home when you call the vet, or ask a friend to go with you if you go to the vet? If she can be made relatively comfortable, maybe bringing her home would be the best thing for her, you and your other cat?

Whatever happens, you will get through this. Babee knows you love her, and I'm sure your other cat knows that, too.

Keep breathing. It'll be ok.

I have no advice to offer, but I just wanted to say I am so sorry you are faced with such a decision. My heart is breaking for you. Babee is lucky to have such a loving mama.

I'm so sorry to see this. You are in such a difficult place. I think if the Vet can manage her pain I would bring her home and if possible have the Vet come to your home to help her pass. I SO wish I had done that with my dear Waldo. Whatever you do it will be from the love you share.
