Aviva meter may be a good choice.

Hi,

Somehow, in the chaos of buying Contour strips on eBay and having sellers not send them or send 10 when they listed 50, I wound up with an Aviva meter, sent free from Accu-Chek. I really like it - though I still use my Contour too, it has several advantages. Unlike Freedom Lite, it takes blood from the end of the strip (like Contour), which is easier to take from a cat's ear. It takes only a tiny drop of blood - very unlike the older Accu-check meters that needed enough blood for a transfusion. :? Compared to Contour, the test strips are much more economical and easy to get on eBay. This may be because Accu-Check offers Aviva strips for a max price of $15 to people who have insurance, so there is less competition for them. I just won two auctions for 100 and 150 Aviva strips, $8.26 for the 100 and $16.05 for the 150 - plus $8.60 postage each, but the seller said he'd refund excess postage. Even paying all the postage for each, try getting Contour strips for that price - on the first try! (I bid on 3 auctions and won two of them.)

As long as the meter is equally accurate, this looks like a good option, though I also received (VERY belatedly) 50 Contour strips today, and just before that I won an auction for 50 Contour. Once in my life, I hav enough strips to last a while - even after paying Dr. Jen back (in strips) for all those she lent me!

Blessings,

Shirley and Mr. B.

just a quick note since you are new to the Aviva it sounds :-) the strips will not work past the expiration date so make sure you use those up first. somehow that chip that comes with the strips tells the meter the expiration date and mine always kicked them out about noon on the day they expired.

there is a way to use expired strips but i can't tell you how. dian and wheezer i believe has successfully done it though. something about taking apart the back and undoing a solder joint and resoldering it after doing something else. if you find yourself in that jam though i'm sure dian can tell you how she did it. one of these days i swear i'm gonna try it :-) just haven't gotten around to it.

but yes, plenty of people here like that meter

Oh-oh - nope, I didn't know they were actually wired not to work past the expiration date! Thought they just gradually stopped working, like Contour. I have 25 days left to use up 250 of them. :o Anybody want to buy some, cheap? (I mean it - anybody want to buy some for my actual cost, which was a bargain if you can use them up?)

Blessings!

oh crud! if you don't get any takers, seriously, get hold of dian and wheezer. i'm 95% sure she figured out how to use them past the expiration date. maybe worst case, send her the meter, have her re-configure it, and send it back to you?

I remember the trick to get them to work past expy.
redate the meter....set the date back a month or 3....

As for using 2 meters simultaneously....not a good idea for consistancy.
Those meters may run many points differently.

ok, i just did it on one of my newbie kit meters.
remove battery.
replace battery.
it will beep the time for you to adjust...press the button on the upper right side of meter to move ahead.
when you get to the last option...option 3...that is the date. you use the left/right arrows to put in the numbers you want. then hit the button on top again.

if you have confusion pm me your # and we'll walk thru...

wow, i just read cindy's link and apparently the meter outsmarts that trick.
I don't have ANY strips to test this on....
:YMSIGH: thought i was sooooooo smart.... :YMSIGH:

Yup, that's why you can get the strips soo cheap so close to the expiri date :YMSIGH:

The meter is a good meter and the strips usually aren't too bad. I pay around $22-$24 per 50 strip bottle for ones with a good expiri date. I'd use less than 10 strips before those expire otherwise I'd swap some out with you.
