Just wondering what the average price of a cat's dental is these days. And what might be per extraction?? any info you have is appreciated. I am sure there is a wide range here.

Thank you!

It really depends where you are located and whether you go to a general vet or a specialist.

I'm in NJ - NYC area and I take my girls to a dental specialist. I do this for various reasons.

- it's a 24 hour facility
- vet always does xrays before and after
- vet is trained to handle all kinds of issues that may arise regarding dental
- and there's lots other reasons.

To give you an example - dentals with extractions tend to cost me around $1300-1600 per cat.

None of my cats have simple dentals either.

In other parts of the country, it could be half this.

We live in MI and went to a board certified dental specialist over two hours away ..

Mocha had 8 extractions, including her two upper canines and with all the x rays and everything else, it ran us around $1300.00 .. She stayed there for about 8 hours, including time before, during and after dental ..

If we were to do another dental on mocha, we would not feel the need to go to a specialist. We went there because mocha was on insulin and this vet had worked with diabetic cats before .. Now that mocha is OTJ, I think a local vet would be able to do just as well of a job. I think the month of February is feline dental month .. and lots of vets offer discounts that month.

I paid between $400 and $500 for dentals with a specialist. That includes the cost for the separate consult which is usually a day or two beforehand so the vet can take x rays and determine what needs to be done. Also included in the cost was the day ward fee, bg testing fee, among some miscellaneous others. Some vets charge for these, others do not.

February is National Pet Dental Health month, sponsored in part by Hills Pet Nutrition. Many vets offer discounts on dentals during February.

It is not standard practice to take dental xrays before the dental. Dental xrays require the animal be anesthetized and you want to avoid anesthesia when not really necessary. Dental xrays should be done at the beginning of the dental..

Depending on how many extractions need to be done, I've paid between $600-$800 for dentals for my cats. All of those included extractions, and it also depends how easily the teeth come out.

Hello

My Tuxedo cat Andy(GA) had a dental last summer, no teeth pulled it was about 500.00. My cat Arthur just had one done with 9 teeth pulled and it was over 900.00
I think it also depends where you live at as well.

It definitely depends where you live - for example, just a couple weeks ago, Buster (my civvie) had a dental - 2 extractions and 1 root canal - yes cats can have root canals who knew - anyway, the dentist promised she wouldn't charge more than an extraction for the root canal - and as it turned out the root canal was a big job.

When she filled the canal and took xray, it was leaking out the bottom, she then had to do an incision from the outside (jaw) in to seal off the bottom of the canal and allow the stuff to settle in.

My poor girlie looked like she got in a fight and came out with a bruised chin.

Anyway, this visit cost - $ 1600 - she also didn't charge for the overnight stay. She has it set up so you can take your animal in the night before (so you don't have to rush in the am to drop off) and they give a free overnight - with tech care and monitoring. It's a convenience and easy way for them to fast the animal and for me not to have to remove food from everyone.

So, as you can see, prices range a lot, depending on where you live and what procedures the vet/dentist follows.

The one thing, when you go for your consult, ask for a written estimate - they should be able to provide it with a detailed breakdown of all the charges - my dentist does this and they give a low to high range with detailed pricing for each item.

honestly, I don't even look anymore, I just turn over the credit card and cover my eyes when signing. I so don't want to see the damages. ;-)

I live in Oregon and for a dental with no extractions its $300.00. I recently had my cat in and they had to take out 2 teeth - the total was $864.00 (in addition to the dental she also needed antibiotics). I really think it depends on your vet and how many teeth come out. Jan

In Richmond VA, there is the Helping Hands clinic. They are a low cost clinic and only do dentals and surgery. Dentals are around $150 plus $45 for senior cat bloodwork. That includes exam, all extractions, medications, etc. This is a top notch clinic even though the prices are great. Dr Pasternak is completely awesome!

Out in the midwest, it is a lot cheaper. One clinic I take my animals to charges $120 without extractions. Easy pulls are $5 a tooth, moderately difficult ones are $10 a tooth. Any worse, and they send you to a specialist. Our other vet we have gone to charges around $250, but that is with x-rays and what not.
