It official Mz. Autumn will be checking in to the vetty bean's at 8:30 am on Feb. 20th to finally get her mouth all fixed up and those nasty bad teeth taken out. They aren't even going to recognize her when I take her in, the last time they saw her was when she was in to be shaved and barely tipping the scales at 5.5lbs. Today she is a happy girl at a lean 14lbs.

Got all the fingers, toes, paws and tails crossed that this will be the last little push she needs to give up the juice and that she sails through the dental with no problems other than she isn't going to be a happy girl on the 20th since she will not be allowed to eat before she goes in, and she is very use to breakfast being served promptly at 7am...I may be eaten alive...lol

Hmmm... looks like posts during the "upheaval" got lost on the temp site.

Mel, I can't even remember what I posted last. Oh! I'm not sure they will want her to eat for several hours after coming out of anesthesia, but I'm sure she will be so happy to see that you are still there when she wakes up.

I will be thinking good thoughts for her for next Weds.

I know with Maxwell at least and a couple of mine that they have spayed/neutered they will hold them until they are completely back awake and then wait for them to eat to make sure they can hold it down. Like with Maxwell his was also first thing in the morning at 9am, they didn't release him until 2pm because they wanted to make sure he would eat and that he could hold it down. As much as I would love to have them come home the moment they open their eyes I am glad my vets take such a super job of watching over those in their care until they are sure it is safe for them to go home.

Oh I found this just cute. When I went in to set up Autumn's dental my vet had two little girls in with a very pregnant hampster. Dr Tami was being very gentle with the lttle fluff ball and telling the girls that she needed to help Ellla the hampster have her babies. So when I went back in the next day with Duvessa I asked Dr. Tami how it went with little Ella, and she told me that she had done a c-section on Ella and mom and all 9 babies were resting comfortably in the back, and took me in the back to show me mom and babies. :-D Now there is a vet that goes above and beyond for a critter. I can't even imagine trying to do such a delicate procedure on something so tiny but there she was a happy fat little hampster momma caring for her new family. Just she had a shaved tummy and a tiny incision.

That is so sweet! But, wow! A c-section on a hampster- that is delicate work

Just knowing the care that they give the smallest absolutely shows how well they take care of all. Good thoughts to Autumn on dental day!

Well, that's the first I have heard of a c-section on a hamster! I wonder if she gave her a hysterectomy while she was "in there"? Or maybe that had to happen anyway. I think they have a similar uterus to a cat, with the "horns", so getting the babies out would mean opening it up on both sides. Anyway, interesting. That's one I will be sure to share with my animal loving friends and family. :-D

Yeah it was a first for me too but I thought it was just so sweet that she would work that hard for a family pet that doesn't exactly have a long lifespan to begin with, but Ella and her new family was important to her little girl mommas so Dr. Tami was going to go the extra mile to save both momma & babies. But then again everytime I have been in the back there is always something in recovery or the hospital section that one doesn't normally find in a vet clinic...I've seen squirrels, raccoons, skunks, pigeons, and just last summer when I was in teaching a new diabetic kitty parent to test and shoot there was even a fawn that they were bottle feeding.

I told Jon the other day we can never move away from this town unless we can take our vets with us...lol
