The good news is that she recently saw her vetty bean for a once over because she decided to shoot way up in numbers while momma was sick from that nasty spider, then start coming down nicely again once mom took over again. So since winter is just around the corner I decided to have her in for a checkup and to get her a new script for her insulin so I can get her stocked up before the snow flies. Well her vetty bean gave us a choice of insulins, neither of which was Lantus..either Levemir or Prozinc, and since I know only the depot insulins ...Miss Autumn will be becoming a Lev cat when her current Lantus pen is done. Dr Rick even gave us her first pen that someone had donated to the clinic to get her started.

More good news is that her vetty beans thinks she has an excellent chance of going OTJ! :-D Once we take care of the bad news...the bad news is her mouth is a mess, she has several teeth that need to come out, she has a raging infection and her breath smells like a sewer. He wants the infection cleared up before they do the dental to deal with the teeth, but considering how low we got on Lantus he thinks once her mouth stops hurting her and we get the infection under control I will be proudly owned by two broken diabetics. Since not only does she have several rotten teeth she has several that are broken off at the gum line, so between the infection, the bad teeth, and the stress from being a momma's girl and having strange people care for her while mom was sick, I have an explaination of why her numbers jumped way up.

But today we are surfing the GREEN, so much so that she just earned herself another dose reduction, so back down the dosing scale we go.

And for anyone that wants to see the new avatar pic a little bigger here she is after having her snack to bring her back up from that 41 at +4 today. :-D

Hi Mel!!!

I'm actually happy to hear both the good and the bad news, since getting rid of the "bad" is going to make things so much better for her. What a beautiful girl!

I took the liberty to look for your old posts for a "before" picture, and I'm going to re-post them. IMO, these are a testament to the "power of love", Mel. Love has brought back the outer beauty that was hiding when she came into your life. How much does the little furball weigh today? A bit more than 6.5 pounds, I'm guessing?

She has blossomed!

Hugs,
Carl

Carl,

Autumn is now 14lbs and still a bit on the thin side...yes she is still thin at 14lb! :o Vet thinks she could easily carry another 2-3lbs without being over weight. How she made it long enough to get out here to us I haven't a clue except pure tortietude. Either that or Musette knew she wasn't going to get to stay long and knew her mom needed another extra sweet girl to love and willed Autumn to hang on until mom & dad smartened up enough to adopt her. Because as much as sometimes I hate to say it, Autumn is everything that I wanted Musette to be but that she wasn't. Autumn is a snuggle bug, anytime, anywhere if there is a lap Autumn wants on it. Musette was love only on her own terms and her own time, and was happier in the company of the other cats than the people, Autumn tolerates her furry brothers and sisters but loves her beans with everything she has. Musette demanded, Autumn asks. There is a refinement in Autumn that Musette just didn't have, we often laugh and say Musette was the spoiled princess whereas Autumn is the regal queen.

But I really think of them as seasons, Maxwell was and is my gentle spring, he was my new beginnings after Muse, he settled into our hearts and home so gently it was looking up and suddenly realizing the trees had budding leaves, then Musette came along and she was summer, hot and fiery and gone all too soon, and now Autumn who is exactly that she is Autumn, with her hot days or stormy days where she is all tortietude and then there are days when she is so mellow like those neither too hot or too cold days that I love the fall season for, and she even has her chilly day moods too, where she is mad at us for some reason (usually because we didn't serve the flavor of cat food she wanted) and she won't look at us or respond to her name...lol...and somewhere down the road, hopefully a long ways down the road another sugarcat will find its way here and she/he will be winter.

Mel,
The markings on her face are incredible, and make me think of 2 things. One, it looks like she's wearing "eye black" under her eyes like a football player! And two, she reminds me of many of our summertime guests who come into the campground store after a long day at the beach, and remove their sunglasses, and I can only think "wow, you're going to need some Aloe Gel tonight if you want to be able to get some sleep"
What a gorgeous girl!

LOL I always look at her big orange patch on her forehead and think it looks like the Native American Thunderbird or a Phoenix in flight. I wish her eye color came out better in pictures she has the prettiest peridot green eyes. I'm sure some of the other cats here would agree that she looks like a football player when she bowls them over on the way to the food dish, one of the reasons she eats on the counter half the time...so they can

Autumn is a beauty of a cat! I love her head patch and what spider bit you?

I was bitten by a recluse, nailbite_smile (they think) when I was a kid and still have a huge scar on my temple where the skin was eaten away. We lived in Virginia then, prime spider country when you are a kid and have Woods!to run around in all day long. :-D

Wish my Sammy would get back into some decent numbers. I am thinking we may be due for an insulin change myself. It's so frustrating to not get any regulation in him. Just high numbers and yes, I'm still afraid to up his dose. Mom's a chicken. I should go live out in the hen house with the rest of the biddies.

It was a brown recluse, which if that wasn't bad enough the first antibotic they gave me was a sulfur based one and I learned the hard way that I'm deathly allergic to sulfur based drugs it landed me in the hospital for 5 days. DH can test but can't shoot because of his work schedule so we tried having a vet tech come over to shoot...Autumn was having none of that! My sweet little girl that comes running at test and shot time turned into a snarling, growling and biting beast.

What really suxed was I got bit on my right thumb right in the middle joint and I'm right handed so I had to have the tech fill the syringe, hand it to me, I would grab it between my fingers, tent with the left hand, then stick it in with the right hand, switch hands and use my left to depress the plunger  It was ackward but I got the job done...the things we learn to do to take care of our extra sweet babies.

I still have a huge scar and lots of nerve damage but at least I'm starting to get some flexiblity back in it, but after nearly a month of not being able to use it at all I have to remind myself to use it now...lol I still catch myself doing things with either my left hand or in the manner I had come up with to manage while it was out of commission..

Hi Mel,

Haven't been on this board for awhile, went to Tight Reg, and am thinking of coming back, so while I was visiting I read about you and the spider and Autumn, and I just wanted to say, you should be a writer, you describe everything so wonderfully, with detail, it makes a picture in my head!

Hope your thumb gets better fast, and Autumn gets greener!

good day to you and yours!
